John Sellers Dies at His Home Friday. Bronchial Pneumonia Following Influenza

     The Cause of Death. ( Broomfield Correspondent).

This community was saddened by the death of John Sellers at his home in Broomfield township, January 3rd 1919 at 2:30 a.m. of bronchial pneumonia following the influenza. His death was especially sad as there were four besides himself sick with the flu.

John Sellers was born near Toronto, Canada, in August 1871 and came with his parents, Joseph and Hannah Sellers, when a small boy to Broomfield twp. Here he grew  to manhood and received his early education at the Russell school. He was married to Miss Pearl Lamb of Broomfield about 24 years ago. To this union were born 3 sons, Cecil, Homer and Mervin, and one daughter Leona, all of Broomfield.

Mr Sellers has held the offices of Commissioner, postmaster and treasurer of the township of Broomfield and was a staunch Republican.

He leaves two brothers, Wm and Robert of Broomfield: Four sisters, Mrs Anna Munn of Blanchard and Mrs Lizzie Ruthruff of Edmore, Mrs Fannie Miller and Bessie Miller of Broomfield with his family to mourn the loss of a kind husband, father and brother and a host of friends to mourn their loss. Funeral services were conducted at the home with interment in Broomfield town hall cemetery. Rev B. Dickenson of Millbrook officiating.

Hannah Hutchinson Sellers

 Sympathy is extended to the family and relatives in their hour of sorrow.

Hannah Hutchinson was born in Canada December 2 1839 and died November 19 1918. She was married to Joseph Sellers November 29 1862 at Malvern, Canada. They came to their present home 44 years ago, being old pioneers.   Mr Sellers departed this life in 1880. To this union were born eight children, all of whom were with the mother at the last except Mary who died in 1888. Mrs Sellers was a member of the Wesleyan Methodist church from girlhood.       She was a devoted mother and will be missed by all who knew her.


Robert Pexton Sellers
                      
Funeral services were held Monday, February 3, for Robert Pexton Sellers who passed away Friday, January 31, at his home following a heart attack. The Rev E.D. Jeffries of Blanchard officiated at the services which were held  from the Broomfield hall with interment in the Broomfield cemetery. A.A. Jones of Blanchard was in charge of arrangement.
Mr. Sellers, a pioneer resident of Broomfield township was born April 6 1867. His father passed away when he was but a small boy leaving him with the responsibility of helping his mother raise a family of eight children. With the       exception of one year spent in Lansing, Mr. Sellers spent his entire life in Broomfield township. His first wife Cora Ellen Sellers, passed away February 10 1922. He was married to Margaret Gates of Detroit, October 24 1929. Mr Sellers had retired from the occupation of farming several years ago. Left to mourn their loss is his wife; one son Claude of Lansing; four daughters, Mrs. Mable McArthur of Muskegon Heights, Mrs. Marie Carrol, Mrs. Beulah        Williams and Mrs. Hannah Beard of Lansing; fourteen grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren. Another son preceded him in death.
