The Salchert Families
I am dedicating this family history to Michael, Robert, Joanne, and Thomas (Tom) Salchert, my first cousins by their father and mother’s marriage. Their father, Norbert Salchert married my mother’s sister, Rose Galgóczi. (for the Galgóczi descendents, please see “Galgoczi Family of Rosebush,” under Family Photos, Histories, and Genealogies, this section). My aunt, Rose (Galgóczi) Salchert, is one of the most courageous aunts I have, having tragically lost her husband and all but one of her children, yet still able to raise her family, re-educate herself and continue despite tragedy. The same courage and spiritual values can be seen in the Salchert descendents. Rose (Galgóczi) Salchert was a devout Catholic and I feel God has protected her through her journey in life. - Nadine
The Salchert families originate from Germany; in the US, they settled for a short time in Wisconsin, then moved to Isabella County, Michigan. It all started with Johann Jakob Salchert.
First Generation
Johann Jakob Salchert was born about 1730 in Germany. Johann Jakob married Barbara about 1750 in Germany. Their one known son, Johannas Salchert was born about 1755 and died July 16, 1838 in Mullenbach, Cochem, Germany.
Second Generation
Johannas Salchert married Catherine Schneider on January 13, 1778. Catherine was born January 13, 1758 in Hochpochten, Putzfelder Hof, Germany and died October 31, 1833 in Mullenbach, Cochem, Germany. From the union of Johannas and Catherine, two known sons and two known daughters were born in Mullenbach, Reinhard (about 1785), Sophia (about 1790), Johann (May 29, 1795), and Anna Marie (about 1799). There is no information on Reinhard, Sophia, and Anna Marie, but extensive research has been done on these children by others. What is known, is that Johann Salchert married and continued the eventual Salchert lines that came to the US.
Third Generation
Johann Salchert married Sofia Wallenbach on July 02, 1816 in Mullenbach, Cochem, Germany. Sofia is daughter to Christian and Anna (Kolz) Wallenbach. Their one known son, Nikolaus Salchert was born February 02, 1826 at Sesterbach, Cochem, Germany and died March 26, 1886.
Fourth Generation
Nicholaus Salchert married Ursula Gerhards October 15, 1846 at Sestrbach, Cochem, Germany. Ursula was born about 1795. From the union of Nicholaus and Ursula (Gerhards) Salchert, one known son, Mathias Salchert was born January 13, 1847 at Baden or Mullenbach, Cochem, Germany. Mathias Salchert came to the US and settled in Isabella County.
Fifth Generation
Mathias Salchert was born January 13, 1847 in Germany, as son to Nicholaus and Ursula Gerhards Salchert. In February of 1868, Mathias married Catherine Steffes Lunze. Catherine was born on July 07, 1843 in Colblentz, Germany as daughter to Peter Lunze and Gertrude Steffes (please see the following death record for Catherine, which verifies her parents.

Mrs. Catherine Lanza-Salchert was born in Coblentz, Germany, July 7, 1842. She was united in marriage to Matthew Salchert in February, 1868. To this union four children were born: Michael, Nicholas, Matthew and Anna. Nicholas, while attending St. Lawrence Seminary at Mt. Calvary, Wis., preparatory to entering the priesthood, passed away in November of 1886.
Mr. Salchert came to this country from Germany in 1871, and in 1872 Mrs. Salchert and the two children, Michael and Nicholas, came across and the family located in Fond du Lac, Wis. A year later they moved to Central Mine, in the upper peninsula, where they resided eighteen years.
They then moved to a farm in Nottawa township, near Beal City. Mr. Salchert preceded his wife in death; he died Sept. 17, 1918.
Mrs. Salchert has made her home for a number of years in this city, with her daughter, Mrs. John Evans, where on Oct. 20 she fell and broke her hip, and her death occurred Dec. 2, 1928.
Michael, who lives on a farm in Denver township, Matthew, of Lansing, and Mrs. John Evans of this city, besides nineteen grandchildren and five great grandchildren, survive her.
Funeral services were held Dec. 5, at the Sacred Heart church, of which she was a faithful, devoted member.
Solemn requiem high mass was Sun by Rev. Fathers Mulvey and Fons, of this city, and Fr. Zugelder, of Beal City.
She was a member of the Altar Society at Beal City, and the society attended the service in a body.
Interment was made in the Calvary cemetery.

From the obituary of Catherine (Lunze) Salchert, it was revealed that two of her sons, Michael and Nicholas Salchert came to the US with their mother. The pattern of locations for Mathias Salchert and Catherine include their birth country, Germany, Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, Central Mine in the upper peninsula of Michigan, and Beal City, Isabella County, Michigan. Their father, Mathias Salchert, made more than one crossing to the US, but in 1898 he was found in a Ship manifesto, with his destination listed as Beal City, Isabella County, Michigan.

Sixth Generation
Nicholas Salchert was born about 1870 in Germany. He died in November of 1886 at Mt. Calvery, Wisconsin while attending the St. Lawrence Seminary in preparation for priesthood. No obituary is available.

Funeral services were held Thursday, October 18, at the Sacred Heart church for Matthew Salchert, who passed away October 15, after a lingering illness.
Joseph Rush had charge of arrangements and burial was made in Calvery cemetery.
Mr. Salchert was born March 7, 1875, in Central Mine, Upper Peninsula, Michigan, and when a boy, moved with his parents to a farm near Beal City. He served in the Spanish-American War and of late years, he had resided at the Park Hotel in Mt. Pleasant.
The deceased is survived by his brother, Michael Salchert of Rosebush, and several neices and nephews.

Anna Salchert, only known daughter to Mathias and Catherine (Lunze) Salchert, was born 1879 in Isabella County, Michigan. Anna Salchert married John Evans about 1900 in Isabella County. John Evans parents originate from Westfalan, Germany. Anna (Salchert) Evans died in 1934, her husband preceded her in death in 1930. From their union of marriage they had one known son, John Bertrand and two daughters, Leona and Catherine. They are buried at the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Mt. Pleasant, Isabella, Michigan. Mrs. Anna Evans passed away at her home early Wednesday morning, November 28, after an illness of many months.
Anna Salchert was born in Lake Linden, Michigan, October 21, 1879. At the age of 12 she moved on a farm in Beal City with her parents.
In 1901 she was united in marriage to John Evans, who preceded her in death four years ago. To this union three children were born, John Bertrand, Leona and Catherine. Leona preceded her in death 17 years ago at the age of 13.
Many friends were saddened to hear of her death. She was a devoted mother and faithful friend. She also leaves to mourn their loss two little grandsons.
Funeral serves were held from Sacred Heart church Saturday at 9:30 a.m., where solemn requiem high mass was sung by Rev. J. Mulvey.
She was laid to rest in Calvary Cemetary.

In 1893, Michael Salchert married Margaret Mae Perry. Although no obituary of Margaret Mae (Perry) Salchert, one was found for Michael Salchert.

Michael Salchert, 79, retired Denver township farmer, died enroute to Central Michigan Community hospital shortly after being stricken with a heart attack while attending mass at Sacred Heart church, Sunday morning, June 24. He and Mrs. Salchert had been making their home recently with a daughter, Mrs. Edna Torpey, 917 East Broadway.
Mr. Salchert was born Sept. 27, 1871 in Germany. He had lived in Isabella county for 45 years and was engaged in farming before his retirement. The Salchert farm is on R-1, Denver township.
The body will rest at the Torpey residence until the day of the funeral service. Services will be held Wednesday morning at 10 a.m. from the St. Henry's church with burial in Calvary cemetery. A rosary service will be held at the Torpey home Tuesday night at 8 p.m. J. J. Rush is in charge of arrangements.
Besides his wife, Mae, he is survived by daughters, Agnes Marcero of Pontiac, Dorothy Kosten of Detroit, Helen Slider and Lelia Lynch, both of Ann Arbor and Alice Eickioff of Pasadena; two sons, Norbert and William Salchert, both of Rosebush; 26 grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

From the above census, Margaret Mae’s parents originated from New York. Three children, Walter (1895), Viola (1896), and Aloise Salchert (1898), children to Michael and Margaret Mae (Perry) Salchert are first documented from this census. A picture from the collection of Anna McDonald is the only known pictorial proof of the earlier children born to Michael and Margaret Mae (Perry) Salchert.
A fourth child, Aloise, listed in the 1900 census, is not depicted in the picture; also another child, Mildred, is not mentioned. According to oral history, the children in the picture all died within 26 days of one another from a diphtheria epidemic in New York. However, from an historical account of Joseph H. McDonald, there is mention of six children who died of diphtheria, accounting for an additional child (or children) who died from this disease (please see Joseph H. McDonald, this document).
After the tragic losses of their young children, Michael and Margaret Mae Salchert moved to Michigan. and continued to expand their family with the births of 11 more children; Margaret Marie (November 27, 1902), Edna Irene (.June 27, 1904), Agnes (February 18, 1906), Norbert Michael (June 06, 1907), John H. (December 17, 1908), Nickolas ( March 21, 1910), Alice Justina (September 26, 1912), Gertrude Dorothy (1914), Lucile Helen (May 13, 1917), William Edward (May 24, 1918), and Lelia Lavon (March 21, 1923). The following is an account of these 11 children.

Margaret Marie Salchert, born November 27, 1902 as daughter to Michael and Margaret Mae (Perry) Salchert, married James Carlton McDonald on December 29, 1923 in Denver Township, Michigan. James Carlton was born August 07, 1901 in Wood County, Ohio as son to James Ervin McDonald and Julia A. Mitchell, also from Wood County, Ohio. From this union of marriage, five children were born, Doyle Ervin (October 06, 1927), Elton James (January 17, 1929) , Ethel Marie (August 23, 1933), Agnes Lavone (December 18, 1937), and William Edward (June 05, 1939).

James McDonald.
James Carlton McDonlad, 67, of 1773 S. Meridian Road, Mt. Pleasant, died Tuesday, April 29, at Central Michigan Community Hospital after an illness of about a week.
He was born Aug. 7, 1901, in Wood County, Ohio. He had lived in the Mt. Pleasant area for 60 years.
He is survived by three sons, Doyle, Elton and William, and one daughter, Agnes, all of Mt. Pleasant; one sister, Mrs. Sadie Spickerman of Rosebush and eight grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Friday, May 2, at 2 p.m. at the Stinson Funeral Home. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.

Marie M. McDonald
Marie M. McDonald, 1773 S. Meridian Road, Mount Pleasant, died Saturday at her home after a short illness. She was 75 years old.
Funeral services will be tuesday at 9:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Father Kenneth Yaroch officiating. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery.
A memorial service was held Monday evening by the Catholic Daughters at the Stinson-Helms Funeral Home in Mount Pleasant. Memorials may be made to Sacred Heart Parish.
Born November 27, 1902 in Ingham County, she was the daughter of Michael and Mae (Perry) Salchert. She married James C. McDonald on Dec. 29, 1923 in Mount Pleasant. he preceded her in death in 1969.
She was a member of the Sacred Heart Parish and lived in Isabella County most of her life. She was a member of the Sacred Heart Alter Society and Catholic Daughters.
She is survived by one daughter, Agnes McDonald of Mount Pleasant; three sons, Elton, Bill and Doyle, all of Mount Pleasant; eight grandchildren, three great grandchildren.
Also surviving are one brother, Bill Salchert of Rosebush; five sisters, Edna McDonald of Mount Pleasant, Dorothy Petersburg of Detroit, Helen Schnell of St. Petersburg, Fla, Lila County and Alice Marshall of Pasadena, Calif.

Edna Irene Salchert, born June 27, 1904 as daughter to Michael and Margaret Mae (Perry) Salachert, married Joseph H. McDonald on October 06, 1925. Joseph H. McDonald was born September 17, 1900 in Mt. Pleasant, Isabella County, Michigan as son to John McDonald Jr. and Anna M. (Diehl) McDonald, and as grandson to John McDonald, Sr. and Katherine Kane. From this union, they had four known children, all born in Mt. Pleasant, Isabella County, Michigan, Marguerite Josephine, Elizabeth Eileen, Barbara Jean, and Edward Joseph.

Edna I. McDonald, 89, of Mt. Pleasant, died Sunday, Jan. 9, 1994, at Central Michigan Community Hospital.
Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Wednesday at Sacred Heart Church with the Rev. Thomas McNamara officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
Friends may call at Lux Funeral Home today from 7 to 9 p.m., Tuesday from 1 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. and on Wednesday from 9 to 10 p.m. A prayer service is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. tuesday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Sacred Heart Academy Foundation, Commission on Aging or to St. Joseph the Worker School. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
Edna was born on June 27, 1904, in Stockbridge, the daughter of Michael and Margaret (Perry) Salchert. She married Joseph McDonald on Oct 6, 1925 at Sacred Heart Church.
Mrs. McDonald was a member of Sacred Heart Church and the Catholic Daughters. She was employed over a period of years at Lee Equipment, Mt. Pleasant Regional Center, Ferro Mfg. and Oren's Department Store. In later years, she worked as a care giver for the elderly in Mt. Pleasant.
She is survived by three daughters, Marguerite J. Rice of Midland, Eileen Fau of Winn, and Barbara J. and her husband Earl Oplinger of Weidman; a son, Edward McDonald and his wife Kay of Beal City' 19 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Helen of Colorado, and Lelia and Alice, both of California; a brother, William Salchert and his special friend, Irene Evans of Rosebush; and a sister-in-law, Rose Salchert.

"History of the Joseph H. McDonald Family"
Joseph H. McDonald, elder son of John and Anna (Deihl) McDonald was born on September 17, 1900 on a farm in Union Township, Isabella County. A brother Fred still resides on that farm. Joseph attended the McDonald school on the corner of Pickard and Lincoln Roads. He graduated in 1918 from Sacred Heart Academy in Mt. Pleasant. There were eight other children in the family, brother Fred and sisters, Elizabeth, Cecelia, Marguerite, Ann, Mildred, Frances and Evelyn. The sisters graduated from Central Michigan University (Central Michigan Normal) and taught School in various Michigan cities.
On October 6, 1925, he married Edna Irene Salchert, born June 27, 1904, the daughter of Michael and Mae (Perry) Salchert.
Michael Salchert was born in Germany in 1872 and moved with his parents to Lake Linden, Michigan when he was a young boy. He married Mae Perry in the late 1800s and moved to a farm east of Beal City, Michigan and later to a farm northeast of Rosebush.
There were sixteen children in the family, six of the children died at an early age with diptheria during an epidemic in the early 1900s. A son was killed when kicked by a horse, leaving nine surviving children; Marie, Edna, Norbert, Agnes, Peg, William and Lelia. The children attended the North Rosebush School and a son William still resides on the farm.
Joseph and Edna lived in several homes in the Mt. Pleasant area before purchasing a farm at 60 North Lincoln road. Joe farmed and worked for the Tice Ice Company, the Sugar Beet Factory, and the Mt. Pleasant Home and Training School until the time of his death on July 3, 1945.
Edna worked for Waterman's Clothing Store, Ferro's, Mt. Pleasant Home and Training School, Lee Equipment and Orens before moving to Florida in 1971. She returned to make her home at 209 East Maple Street in Mt. Pleasant in 1977. Edna is still very active working on many church committees and doing odd jobs.
On April 16, 1926, Marguerite Josephine was born, Elizabeth Eileen on November 8, 1927, Barbara Jean on April 6, 1929, and Edward Joseph on July 13, 1930.
The children attended the Whiteville School, which was located on Jordan Road in Isabella Township and later Sacred Heart Academy and Mt. Pleasant High School. The family were members of the Sacred Heart Parish in Mt. Pleasant.
Marguerite graduated from Sacred Heart Academy in 1944, and began working at Krogers. She has been employed at various jobs through the years and most recently self-employed. She was owner and operator of the old Van Zandt Store (Rice's Party Store and the Barn Door on West M-20 at Coldwater Road). On December 15, 1944, Marguerite married Roderick Rice, he was employed by Dow Chemical until the time of his death on August 11, 1949. David Leo was born on August 11, 1949, Teresa mae on July 7, 1951, Gary Lynn on September 10, 1952, Mark Harold on July 22, 1954, Nicholas Lee on July 14, 1958 and Carol Irene on October 18, 1959. Gary Lynn was killed in an automobile accident while serving with the Navy in California.
Elizabeth Eileen graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School in 1946 and began working at Ferro's. For the past twenty-five years she has been employed by the State of Michigan. On April 12, 1947, she married Stephen F. Rau, a self-employed farmer until 1969 when he became a laborer for Marchlando-Rau Construction, until he was disabled by a stroke in 1975. Stephen J. (Joe) was born on November 1, 1948. Marjorie Ann on July 1, 1950, William Edward on June 4, 1951, and Mary Kay on September 20, 1952.
Barbara Jean attended Mt. Pleasant High School and later worked at Ferro's. On November 14, 1951 she married Earl Oplinger, a farmer in Sherman Township, Isabella County. They have lived and farmed in the same place since 1951. Kenneth Earl was born on August 16, 1952 and Edward Sterling on June 15, 1954.
Edward Joseph attended Sacred Heart Academy and enlisted in the U.S. Air Force at the age of sixteen. He spent the next seven years in Texas, Alaska, Korea, Michigan and Florida. On September 28, 1957 he married Harriet Kay Dowell and lived at North Lincoln Road for several years. The family now resides in Beal City. Eddie has worked as a laborer for many construction companies in the area and H. Kay is the janitor for St. Joseph the Worker Parish in Beal City. Joseph Harold was born on March 30, 1958, Edward Leroy on September 13, 1959, Eric Scott on January 31, 1961, Douglas Allen on July 29, 1962, Matthew Brian on September 30, 1963, Frederick Kelly on January 31, 1964, Gregory Mark on July 3, 1965, Jennifer Ann on January 18, 1968 and Michelle Martha on April 8, 1972.
The family now consists of many great-grandchildren. The latest born on July 18, 1982.

Norbert Michael Salchert, born June 06, 1907 in Livingston County, Michigan as son to Michael and Margaret Mae (Perry) Salchert, married Rose Galgoczi on August 10, 1929 in Rosebush, Isabella County, Michigan. Rose Galgoczi was born August 3, 1911 in East Chicago, Lake County, Indiana as daughter to Walter G. Galgóczi (from Koronco, Gyor, Hungary) and Rosa Fejes Galgóczi (from Sopron, Gyor, Hungary).

Norbert M. Salchert, 54, of rural Rosebush was found in the barn in critical condition and was rushed to Community Hospital where he died two hours later.
Dr. Leo Wickert said that Salchert suffered a crushed chest, punctured lung, bruised heart and other internal injuries after being attacked by the bull. Salchert had been released from the hospital only a couple of weeks ago for a coronary.
Salchert died at approximately 10:00 yesterday morning.
State police are still investigating the accident.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 10 a.m. in St. Henry's Church in Rosebush. Father John McGee will officiate. Burial will be in the St. Henry's Cemetery.
Friends may call at the family residence in Vernon township until time of services. The Rush Funeral home is in charge of funeral arrangements.

Rose Salchert, 92, of Rosebush died Sunday, Dec. 21, 2003 at the Isabella County Medical Care Facility.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 23, at St. Henry Catholic Church with Father Jeff Donner presiding. Burial will be in St. Henry Cemetery.
Friends may call at Lux Funeral Home on Monday from 4-8 p.m. with a vigil service beginning at 7:00 p.m. Visitation continues at the church on Tuesday from 10-11 a.m.

Rose was born Aug. 3, 1911, in East Chicago, IN, the daughter of Walter and Rose (Feyes) Galgoci. She married Norbert Salchert.
A life resident of Isabella County, Rose was an executive housekeeper at the Isabella County Medical Care Facility from 1965 until her retirement in 1981. She was also a cook at St. Henry School cafeteria for 10 years. She was a member of St. Henry Parish, the Catholic Daughters and the Altar Society.
Rose is survived by one son, Thomas (Janice) Salchert of Blanchard; five grandchildren, Mark (Betty) Salchert of Clare, Janinne (David) Kredell of Lexington, Nina (Dave) Andrews of Battle Creek, Meg (Russ) Miller of Farwell, and Michael (Tammy) Salchert of Bay City; two step-grandchildren, Aaron (Jennifer) Leonard of Comstock Park and Joseph Leonard of Shepherd; eight great grandchildren; one sister, Helen Horvath of Mt. Pleasant; and a daughter-in-law, Janette Salchert of Coleman.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Norbert in 1960; daughter, Joanne in 1963; two sons, Michael in 1976 and Robert in 1999; three brothers; and three sisters.

Marilyn Janette was born August 4, 1932 as daughter to Louis and Marion Charlotte (Northon) Becker. From their union of marriage, Michael Earl and Marilyn Janette Salchert had five children, Janine Marie, Mark, Nina Marian, Margaret Mae, and Michael Steffin.

Michael Salchert, 44, died Saturday, July 31, in St. Mary's Hospital, Saginaw, as a result of injuries received Monday, July 26 in a farming accident.
Mr. Salchert was a lifelong resident of Vernon Township. He was a farmer and salesman of farm supplies, and lived at 2612 E. Herrick road, Clare. He was born April 22, 1932, the son of Norbert and Rose Salchert. On September 22, 1951, he married Janette Becker.
Surviving are his wife, Janette, two sons, Mark and Michael, three daughters, Janine, Nina, and Margaret, all at home, his mother, Rose, Rosebush, and brothers Robert, Las Vegas and Thomas, Shepherd.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, Aug. 03, at 2 p.m. at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Calre, with Pastor Ronald L. Waterstradt. Friends may call today at the Stephenson-Wyman Funeral Home. Burial will be at Cherry Grove.

Robert W. Salchert, second born son of Norbert and Rose (Galgóczi) Salchert, never married. From the state of Michigan, he entered the seminary for priesthood, but changed his career to the educational systems and became employed in the state of Nevada. He also was employed by the Nevada casinos, and briefly before his death, he worked for AARP. For many years, Robert contributed to the livelihood and well being of his widowed mother and took loving interest in her affairs. Robert died March 31, 1996 in Las Vegas, Clark County, Nevada. Joanne Marie Sachert, third child and only daughter to Norbert and Rose (Galgóczi) Salchert was born on December 21, 1945 in Mt. Pleasant, Isabella County, Michigan. Joanne’s precious life was cut short by a tragic accident, having lived but 18 years and four days. Joanne’s dream as a child was to become a nurse.

“Student Nurse Joanne Salchert: Rosebush Girl Killed in Toboggan Accident”
Death came to student nurse, Joanne Marie Salchert, on Christmas Day following injuries she sustained in a tobogganing accident at Little Mountain, six miles west of Rosebush.
Joanne, daughter of Mrs. Rose Salchert of 4111 Mission Road in Rosebush, was in nurses training at St. Lawrence School of Nursing in Lansing and was to have been capped in February after finishing the first phase of her training. She was one of the first girls from this area to receive a scholarship from the Foundation for Career Advancement.
Joanne was born in Mt. Pleasant on December 21, 1945 and went to grade school at St. Henry's in Rosebush, graduating in June of 1963 from Sacred Heart Academy. She had been a "Candy Striper" on the co-op plan at Central Michigan Community Hospital during high school. She had worked just last Friday and Monday as a nuses aide at the hospital during her Christmas vacation and had also made plans to work as a relief aide during her summer vacation.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 28 at 11 a.m. in St. Henry's Catholic Church in Rosebush with Father John McGee officiating. Interment will be in the St. Henry's Cemetery.
Rosary service will be held at 8 p.m. on Friday, December 27 at the J. J. Rush Funeral Home.
Joanne is survived by her mother Rose; three brothers, Michael Salchert of Clare; Robert of Las Vegas, Nevada; and Thomas at home in Rosebush and several aunts and uncles.
Friends may call at the J. J. Rush Funeral Home until time of service on Saturday.

On June 16, 1929, in Rosebush, Michigan, Alice Justina married Ralph Owen Deeter. Ralph is son to Otto A. Deeter and LuLu H. (DeWitt) Deeter and brother to Edgar E., Louis D., and Albert H. Deeter. Mr. Salchert was employed as a mechanic at Central Michigan University for 19 years, retiring in 1981. He also enjoyed farming, hunting, and playing cards. He was a member of the Mt. Pleasant Moose Lodge No. 195 and St. Henry's Church.
He is survived by a daughter, Phyllis (Dana) Nagy of Fife Lake; a son, William J. (Sandra) Salchert of Mt. Pleasant; four grandchildren, Jonn (Danielle) Nagy of Fife Lake, Jason Nagy of Fife Lake, Chad Salchert of Mt. Pleasant, and Suzanne (Bruce) Lilly of Mt. Pleasant; one great-grandchild, Kaley Rose Lilly of Mt. Pleasant, his companion, Irene Evans, and her children, Jim (Nancy) Evans of Holt, Kathy (Lee) Pochert of Marquette, Michael Evans and his fiancee, Leila Vogel of Mt.
