CLARA MOYER
by Ernestine JOHNSON
A pleasant Valley resident passed the Century Mark, Mrs. Clara MOYER, one
of Pleasant Valley's best liked residents had her 100th birthday on Thursday,
February 7, 1963.She passed it at her rural farm home where she has resided
for more than 75 years.
At the tender age of 95 years, she promised to still be around for the 100 mark,
and now she can say "I told you so".
Known as "Aunt Clare" to her whole community, she loves to reminisce of
her past busy, life of a teacher, country store keeper, Post Mistress, farmers
wife, and newspaper columnist. She had the distinction of being the oldest
writer for the publication in Michigan. Her articles were published weekly by
the Alma Record, and she discontinued them only a few short months ago.
Her articles of Pioneer Days and home spun humor attracted many to her
column and even out of state residents called at her home to make her
acquaintance, and complimented her on her work.
Mrs. MOYER taught the three R's to three generations of boys and girls. Also
was a loyal worker at the Pleasant Valley Methodist Church.
She had no children of her own, but assisted in helping to mother five of
her brothers children when their mother died.
Mrs. MOYER is remembered by many for her kind words and assistance in
need. With her niece, Mrs. Mary STONEROCK, as a companion, she still
resides in her farm home and keeps up an interest in local activities and gets
much entertainment from radio, and television. She uses a wheel chair to
move about the house, but also enjoys the comfort of her big easy chair.
In short, it is considered that "Aunt Clare" is doing just fine. We wish her
the best of health and many more Happy Birthdays.
