Mrs. Earl Seeley
Mrs. Earl Seeley who has been ill for the past seven weeks at the Central Michigan Community Hospital of Mt. Pleasant, passed away February 7th at the hospital. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at the Glad Tidings Church at Oil City, Rev. Stewart officiating and burial was made in the Kelly Cemetery. She was born March 21st, 1905 in Ohio and has been a resident of Isabella County for the past thirty years. Surviving her is her husband, six daughters, Mrs. Thelma Opdyck of Louisiana, M., Helen Lilly of Mt. Pleasant, Willowdeen, Faye, Pauline and Barbara, at home, one son Willard of Shepherd, two brothers, Ernest Anthony of Ithaca and Estie of Eaton Rapids, two sisters, Pearl Sult of Mt. Pleasant and Nellie Curtiss of Lansing, and two grandchildren.
Wm. Kiefer Gets a Sudden Call
Wm. Keifer Dies After an Illness of Only a Very short Time. Anna Koyl Scrapbook. Hand-dated July 31, 1919. newspaper unknown.
The community was greatly shocked when the sudden death of Wm. Keifer was reported last Saturday evening. Mr. Keifer was an exceptionally strong and robust man, had been on the streets during the day in his usual good health but was taken with acute indigestion soon after going home and death resulted in a very short time. Wm. Keifer was born in Chambersburg, Pa., Oct. 12, 1857 and departed this life at his hone in the village of Shepherd, Michigan, aged 61 years, 9 months and 14 days. The deceased accompanied his parents to Wilmot, Ohio, at the age of five, and there resided until coning to at the age of 25. Two years after his advent into Michigan, he was united in marriage to Miss Mullet. To this union were born five children, three boys and two girls. The departed leaves to mourn their loss, two daughters, Mrs. Blanche Newton of Ann Arbor, Mrs Florence Irish of Lansing; the wife and remains son, Delmar of Shepherd, also four sisters, Mrs. Prina Tash, of Indiana, Mrs. Ette Link of Alliance, O., Mrs. Alice Goodman of Canton, O., and Mrs. Laura Bair of Oberlin, O., also one brother, Robert of Van Wert, O., besides other relatives and a host of friends. Funeral services conducted from the Christian Church Tuesday a.m. by Rev. G.W. Rowlison. Interment in Salt River cemetery.

John W. Mathews
John W. Mathews, eldest son of Timothy and Lucy Mathews, was born in Waterford, Ontario, September 13, 1851, and departed this life February 7, at the age of 76 years,
4 months and 24 days. His boyhood days were spent in Waterford. At an early age, he came to Michigan where he was united in marriage to Miss Ida Platt, on September 19 1879. To
this union were born five children, John P. of San Francisco, California, Mrs. Kate Mikkelson of Greenville, James C. of St. Ignace, Mrs. Dora Allen of Saginaw and Mrs. Alma
Ardner of Shepherd. Besides the widow and children, he is survived by eight grandchildren, a sister, a brother, several nieces and nephews, besides a host of friends. Mr. Mathews was a member of the M.E. church of Shepherd, a member of the Masonic Order, Oddfellows,
Eastern Star, Rebekah, and Modern Woodsman fraternities.
He was well and favorably known throughout the county, having been in business here and surrounding towns for a cumber of years. Mr. Mathews had been engaged in the restaurant business in Shepherd most of the time for the past ten years, and was highly respected as a business man and a citizen. Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at the
M.E. church, conducted by Rev. G.R. Coman of Breckenridge. Burial services were under the Salt River Lodge No. 288, P. And Am.

Solomon Fordyce
The funeral of Solomon Fordyce one of the few remaining veterans of the Civil War, was held last Thursday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock, at the Christian church, Rev. Vanetter and Rev. Mayhew officiating. All places of business were closed for the funeral, and school was dismissed. Flags were displayed along the street at half meet as a tribute to his war record.
A large crowd was out to the funeral to do honor to an old veteran and a respected citizen. Among those present were P.J. Phenix, Sherman Allen, and Mr. Caszatt, the
only surviving members of the Civil War who reside in this immediate vicinity$
Several members of the American legion were present in uniform and the members of Salt River Lodge F. and A. M. of which Mr. Fordyce was a charter member were present.
It was a fitting tribute to one who had been a loyal citizen not only in the service of his country but to his town and community. Burial was at Salt River cemetery.
Solomon Fordyce, son of John and Sarah Fordyce, was born in Greene county, Pa., in l838. At the age of 23 years, he enlisted in the 1st West Virginia Infantry for the short term and at the expiration re-enlisted for three years, and then again re-enlisted and served to the
end of the war. During the last year of his service he was sergeant in Company 01 2nd West Virginia Infantry. He came to Michigan in 1867 when Coe township was but a wilderness. ]it later established a general store at Salt River (now Shepherd) which he conducted for several years. In 1875 he was married to Harriet Smith who died in 1893. Be is survived by 6 children* Charles of Shepherd; Mrs. Wilbur Johnson of Howell; Mrs. Will Rome of St. Clair; Mrs. Will Aldrich of Shepherd; Mrs. Emerson Orth of Owosso; and Vern Fordyce of Chelsea. A son, Elmer, died in l894. One brother Orcott Fordyce of Shepherd and 6 grandchildren and 2
great grandchildren also survive.

Agnes Amelia Young Faunce.
Agnes Amelia Young was born in Johnston township, Trumbull county, Ohio, October 13, 1850, and departed this life April 20, 1028, at the ape of 77 years, 5 months and 27 days. She was the daughter of Joseph and Annie Young; natives of Scotland. She was married to Mr. Faunce, September 23, 1875, at Cortland, Ohio, where trey both resided. To this union were born three children: Annie T. of Shepherd, Garfield of Lansing, and Alsen of Harbor Springs,
Mr. and Mrs. Faunce came to Michigan soon after their marriage and resided here ever since. Mr. Faunce preceded his wife in death November 3, 1910. Agnes Faunce became united with the Christian church of Shepherd, February 11, 1880, and has always been a faithful member. She was a woman loved and respected by all who knew her, and always had a smile and a worm handclasp for a11 who came her way. Besides her three children, she leaves to mourn their loss, six grandchildren: Mrs. Alton Selfridge, and Mrs. Rollin Selfridge of Lansing, Alice Faunce of Kalamazoo, Dale and Helen Faunce of Harbor Springs, and Vera Voyl of Clifford, also six great grandchildren and a host of close friends. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at 2:30
from the Christian church with C.E. Pickett of Fremont, a former pastor of Shepherd, officiating.

Captain Charles C. Grieve
When Capt. Charles C. Grieve died in the navel hospital In San Diego, California, February 16, the curtain was drawn on the career of one of Isabella county's most interesting and colorful people. Charles Grieve was one of Shepherd's most widely known and prominent citizens. He had called the southern Isabella village his home since he first setup a
private Practice there upon his graduation from the medical college of the University of Michigan. He returned to Shepherd upon his retirement from service in 1929, after a most interesting career in which he saw military service in many countries and in almost all parts of the world. Capt. Grieve was born on a farm near Ionia, December 6, 1873, the eldest son of William and Phoebe Grieve. His early life was spent on the farm and he was graduated from
the Ionia high school in 1894. Following his graduation, he spent two years teaching school preparing himself for college. He was graduated from the University of Michigan college of medicine and surgery in June 1901. He set up a private practice in Shepherd the following September and began preparing himself for entrance into the medical corps of the United States Navy. He was commissioned Assistant surgeon with the rank of Lieutenant, Junior grade, in the navy medical corps by Feb. 7, 1903 He was graduated from the Naval Medical school of tropical Medicine in Washington D.C., in 1904, and took post graduate work in surgery at Harvard in 1912. He was graduated in the senior close at the Naval War college at 'Newport, Rhode Island, in 1924. He specialized in surgery until he arrived at the command rank, then reporting to the department for special cases from different parts of the world. His first command came in 1907, when he wav appointed to the naval hospital at Sitka, Alaska, where he remained until September 1909; from the time of his first appointment until the entrance of the United States in the World War, he served at various shore stations throughout the world.
He served in the Philippines, the Mexican War, the World War, and minor expeditions and landings of the United States forces since the World War. He was a member of the American College of Surgeons, the American Medical Association, and the Military Order of the World War, the American Legion and the National Society League. He was retired from active duty February 7. 1929, on total and permanent disability contracted in the line of duty. After his retirement he was not active in his profession. He is survived by his wife, Frances whom he married in 1902 and several grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Margerita Etta Montroy Meyers
Margetita Etta Meyers, daughter of John and Jane Montroy, was born in Brandford, Canada, May 26, 1865, and departed this life December 3, 1945, at the age of 80 years, six months and eight days. She was married in 1883 to Irvin Eugene Meyers. They lived in Ohio until 1892, then moved to Shepherd and lived here until her death. Those left to mourn their lose are her eight children, Mrs. A. J. Faunce of Harbor Springs, Mrs. Manley Davis, Mrs. Robert Norris and John Meyers of Lansing, Irvin of Detroit, Jennie, Clarence and Donald of Shepherd, and one sister, Eva Montroy and Ed Montroy both of Sherwood, Ohio, also 13 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Funeral services were held Wednesday at the Methodist church and interment in the Salt River cemetery.
Mary A. Cohoon

Mrs. Mary A. Cohoon, eldest daughter of Amos V. and Elizabeth Packer, was born in Holmes Co., Ohio, May 6th, 1840. Her health has gradually been failing for a number of years, and on Thursday evening Jan. 10, 1918 she passed very peacefully away at the are of 77 years, 7 months and 14 days. She came with her parents to Lenawee CO., Michigan when eight years old. After a residence of five years in that county they migrated to Pine River township, Gratiot Co. Reaching their destination on Feb. 14th, 1855, it being winter, and the snow very deep, they had a hard time cutting a road and shoveling snow through the forest as they advanced northward. Upon their arrival they were cordially welcomed to the home of Mrs. Sias, who had already taken in three or four families who had preceded these. Mr. Packer bought land from the government and in the spring erected a log house, one of the first housed in that vicinity. There they endured the hardships of the early pioneer days, struggling for existence.
On May 27th, 1857, Mary A. Packer was united in marriage to John C. Cohoon, of Coe township. To this union six children were born, one son and five daughters of whom four are living. The oldest daughter, Lucy Ellen preceded her parents Be. 28th, 1865. Her husband departed this life December 28th, l897. Her only son, John A. died April 24th, 1916. Mrs. Cohoon helped her husband to clear up the farm from a wilderness to a beautiful home where she has ever since lived. She united with the Christian church in 1861 and has since lived a Christian life. For a number of years she has been a member of the Shepherd Rebekah Lodge No. 1914.
She leaves to mourn their loss, four daughters, four grandchildren, and one great grandchild, one brother and two sisters, besides other relatives and a host of friends, She was a kind and loving mother, respected by her neighbors and beloved by all who knew her.
The funeral services were conducted Thursday forenoon at the home by Rev. G.W. Rowlicon, pastor of the Church of Christ of Shepherd. Interment in Sa1t River cemetery.

Mary Potter Hill
Shepherd, July 24.
Mrs. Mary Hill, 89, died July 14, at the hospital where she was taken after being injured after a fall. Mrs. Hill was born to Mr. and Mrs. James Potter of New York State, April 10, 1851. She was united in Marriage to Peter Hill in Van Ettlonville, N. Y. July 4, 1876, and with Mr. Hill resided there until they came to Michigan more than a half century ago, residing near Winn and at Alma before coming to Shepherd to establish their home. Funeral services were held at the Stilgenbauer funeral home in Shepherd, July 17, and burial made in the Lincoln cemetery beside the body of her husband who preceded her in death 17 years. She is survived by nieces in New York who came to attend the funeral service and arrange her affairs.

Aloysius Florian
Aloysius Florian, who has been in failing health for some time past and was taken to the Smith Memorial Hospital in Alma, passed away Sunday morning, September 18, at the age of 80 years.
He was born at Greensburg, Ohio, on March 14, 1869, to Aloysius and Mary Florian. Leas, as he was always known, has resided in this vicinity of Shepherd since 1889 and was one of the original members of the St. Patrick Irishtown church. Rosary was held Tuesday evening at & p.n. at the family residence, where he and his sister, Cecilia, have resided southwest of Shepherd. Requiem Mass was held from the St. Patrick Irishtown church Wednesday a.m. at ten, with
Father Favara officiating. Interment in St. Patrick cemetery. Surviving are one sister, Cecilia Florian, one brother, Anthony Florian, two nieces, Theresa and Christina Florian, two nephews Frances and William Florian, all of rural Shepherd and his many friends. Arrangements were in charge of Garber Funeral Home of Shepherd.

Rexford E. Mullet
Rexford E. Mullet was born in Shepherd, September 14, 1903, and departed this life August 6, 1928. He was graduated from Shepherd high school in June, 1921, and from Central State Teachers College in 1023, from where he accepted the position of principal of the Hope schools where he remained for two years before becoming principal of the McBain high school in 1926, which position he held until the time of his death. He was united in marriage to Ruth Elizabeth McGillis on July 18, 1926. They made their home in McBain until this summer when he engaged in the real estate business in Flint for the period of summer vacation. Besides his wife, the deceased leaves his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Mullet, three brothers, Arza,
Stanley, and Elmore Mullet, and a host of friends to mourn his untimely passing.
Funeral services were held at the home of his parents at one o'clock Thursday and at the Methodist church in Mt. Pleasant, at two o'clock, the Shepherd lodge of Free and Accepted Masons having charge of the services. Rev. Peterson of Sanford delivered the funeral sermon. Interment was in Riverside cemetery.

Ottie Hutchinson Knapp
Mrs. Fred Knapp, Formerly Miss Ottie Hutchinson, of this place, died while on a visit to the home of her sister, Mrs. John Blanken at Lansing. Mrs. Knapp came from her home at Edmonton, Alberta, about two months ago, and after quite an extended visit here, had gone to Lansing where a few days later she was taken ill and passed away in a short time. The remains were brought to this place and funeral services held at her old home on Thursday afternoon, Rev. Rowlison officiating. Burial was in Salt River cemetery. Ottie Mae Hutchinson was born in Shepherd, Michigan, June 27, 1878, and departed this life July 3rd, at the
home of her sister, Mrs. John Blanken, Lansing, Michigan. She was married to Fred F. Knapp in 1890. She leaves to mourn the loss, a husband, mother, three brothers, Louis T. of Dearborn, Floyd who is overseas, and Orlando of this place, and one sister, Mrs. John Blanken of Lansing.
Also one little niece, Frances Audell, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Tamar Ann Foust
Tamar Ann Foust was born in Lucerne county, Pennsylvania, February 29, 1832, and departed this life in the village of Shepherd, May 5, 1919, at the ripe age of 87 years, 2 months and 6 days. The deceased moved to Ohio in 1839, living with her parents until her marriage to William Gribben in l855.She has had three husbands, all three having preceded her into the realms beyond. She was one of a family of eleven children, she being the last to depart this life.
She was the mother of four children of which two survive her, William Robert Gribben of Perrington and Walter David Seely of Shepherd. The deceased leaves to mourn their loss the two sons, four grandchildren and numerous friends. She was a strong believer in God and longed to go to Him. Funeral services were conducted at the Christian church Wednesday afternoon by Rev. 0. W. Rawlison. Interment in Salt River cemetery.

Mrs. Blanche Miller Claybaugh
Mrs. Blanche Claybaugh was born in Shepherd April 25, 1873, and died April 23, 1919. She was married to Henry Claybaugh on April 28, 1909. To this union three children were born of whom two are still living, Lloyd aged 7 years, and Violet aged 5 years. The eldest one died in infancy. Besides the husband and children, she leaves to mourn her loss two brothers and four sisters, William and James Miller of Shepherd, Betsy Salisbury of Mt. Pleasant, Mrs. Josie Hinkle of Portland and Mrs. Kate Dodge of Richwood, West Virginia.

James Bayes
The announcement of the death of James Bayes late Saturday afternoon occasioned considerable surprise to our citizens so many of them had seen him around during the day in his usual good health. He and a boy had been engaged in drawing gravel and while at the pit, he was taken with a pain over his heart. On reaching home, he went into the house and was about to sit down in a chair when he fell to the floor and expired immediately. Mr. Bayes has had periodical pains over his heart, it was not considered of a serious nature.
James. L. Bayes was born in Holmes county, Ohio, February 14, 1845, and died at his home in this village on Saturday, April 12, at 4 p.m. age 74 years, 1 month, and 20 days.
He was united in marriage to Catherine Lehman Apri1 11, 1866.To this union eleven children were born, nine of whom survive, and were in attendance at the funeral as follows: Minnie Smith, Farmer, Ohio, Richard Bayes, Lancing, Frank Bayes, Shepherd, Clare Phillips, Shepherd, Kittie Hulbert, Bryan, Ohio, Mrs. Willard Fickle, Shepherd, Harry Bayes, Reading, Emma Gilson, Mt. Pleasant, and Clyde Bayes of Grand Rapids. He came to Michigan in 1899 and located on a farm northeast of Shepherd and has been a resident of Isabella county ever since.
Mr. Bayes served three years in the Civil War and has been a member of the Free Methodist church for several years. Besides the nine children, he is survived by 31 grand- children, and 3 great grandchildren. Funeral services were held at the M.E. church Wednesday at 11:00 a.m., . Interment was in Salt River cemetery.

Leonard Claybaugh
Leonard Claybaugh was born in Fayette county, Ohio, on the 10th of June in the year 1849 and departed this life April 23, 1919, ages 69 years, 10 months, and 13 days.
The deceased in the year 1867 was united in marriage with Miss Catherine Sturgeon. To this union were born ten children. Mr. Claybaugh moved into the state of Michigan in the year IP92, being a resident of the state until his decease. He leaves to mourn their loss the wife, two daughters, Mrs. Rosa Fishburn of St. Louis, Michigan, Nellie Andrews of Roscommon, four sons, Henry, Edward, Ira and Carl of Shepherd. Twenty grandchildren, and ten great grandchildren and a host of friends. Funeral services were conducted at the Christian church Friday afternoon by Rowlison, assisted by T. G. Blood. Interment is Salt River cemetery.

William Donald Faunce
William Donald Faunce, the only son of Mr. and Mrs. Garfield Faunce, was born in Coe township, Isabella county, Michigan, July 11, 1901, and departed this life April 29, 1919, in the city of Lansing aged 17 years, 9 months and 9 days.
About two years ago, the deceased gave his heart to Christ and identified himself with the Baptist church. He was also a member of the Young Men's Bible Class and the Baptist Young People's Union. The departed leaves to mourn their loss, the father and mother, two sisters, two grandparents, three uncles, three aunts, and a host of friends. The funeral services were held at the Christian church Shepherd, Michigan, Thursday afternoon, conducted by Elder G.W. Rowlison. Interment in Salt River cemetery.

Magdalena Mizer
Magdalena Mizer was born in Tuscarawas county, Ohio, August 23, 1842, and died at her home in Ypsilanti, December 9, 1919, at the age of 77 years, 3 months, and 16 days.
She was married to A. Mizer December 10, 1863; the deceased is survived by a husband, five children and 33 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. She united with the Christian church at Shepherd 33 years ago. The remains were brought to Shepherd last Thursday
and funeral services conducted at the Christian church on Friday, 'Rev. L.G. Blood officiating. Internment at Salt River cemetery. Mr. and Mrs. Abe Mizer came to section 36 in Union township in 1864, where they experienced all the hardships of the pioneer days in hewing a home out of the vast wilderness of Isabella county. This county since that time has been their home with the exception of a short time spent in Ohio, until about nine years ago when they left to spend a couple of years in Texas and Oklahoma and from there came to Ypsilanti, Michigan, where they resided at the time of the death of Mrs. Mizer.
Mollie Fish

Mrs. Mollie Fish, the deceased daughter of Steven A. and Mary Jane Gove, wav born Nov. 15, 1858, in the town of Argentine, Genesee county, Mich., where she spent the greater part of her childhood days. She was married to Dr. Wilson Fish June 25, 1902, at the city of Detroit, where
they have resided until moving to Shepherd two weeks ago. She passed away peacefully at the home of her sister, Mrs. James Black, of this place on the evening of Feb. 11 1916. She leaves to mourn their loss, her husband, one daughter, Mrs. Myrtle Morse, of Birch Run, Mich., one son, William Hazen: two sisters, Mrs Orvilla Highfield, of Davisburg, Mich; and Mrs. James Black of Shepherd, and one brother, Wm. Gove of St. Louis, Mich., besides many other relatives and admiring friends. The remains will be taken to Detroit early in March for interment following funeral services to be held at the First Spiritual Temple, of which church she was a worthy member. For many years Mrs. Fish has been a member of the order of Macabees who will take part at Detroit in the funeral obseques, the exact date of which will appear in Detroit papers during the first week of March.
Old Settler Gone

Henry 0. Barnard, who has been in failing health the past few years died Monday morning at ten o'clock at the home of his daughter, Mrs. F.L. Ashworth, from a complication of diseased.
Mr. Barnard came to our little village with his wife and two youngest (Clara D. and Glen I)., twenty eight years ago last month and settled in the building now occupied
by Ed Brenner, where the deceased conducted a blacksmith shop, the family living, in the rooms over the shop. They won a warm place In the hearts of our villagers, which they have always held. Two years and two days after Mrs. Bernard was laid to rest, which since time Mr. Barnard has made his home with his daughter, Mrs. Ashworth, who with her husband have given him the tenderest of care during his long illness. The deceased was born Dec. 15, 1839 at Genoa, Livingston county, Michigan, and December 25, 1864 he was united in marriage to Mary. A. Dickerson. To this union four children were born, Mrs. Melinda E. Darrow of Lewiston, Mont., Mrs. Julia L. Bennett of Lansing, Mich.0 Mrs. Clara D. Ashworth of this village and Glen D., who died April 18, 1899. Before coming to Shepherd, Mr. Barnard had spent his whole life in Livingston county. He was one of the oldest members and had held different village offices while Rev. David Reed was pastor of the local M.E. church. Mr. Barnard united with the church, where his wife and children were active members. The deceased is the last one of a family of four children. Funeral services were held yesterday from the house at two o'clock. Rev. C.E. Davis assisted by Rev. I.W. Kimberling officiated and the remains were laid to rest beside his late wife in Salt River cemetery.

William R. McGregor
William H. McGregor was born in Canandaigua, New York, August 19, 1854.
He came to Michigan with his parents at the age of fourteen and lived in Hillsdale county for seven years. At the age of twenty-one he came to Isabella county and settled in Fremont township where he has since resided. He was married to Miss Ella Hollingshead, Feb. 23, 1881. To this union were born five children four of whom survive, Mrs. Bertha Cole and Mrs. Roy Marshall of Mt. Pleasant, Glenn McGregor of Ferndale and Buell McGregor who lives at home. One son, Volney, passed away April 19th, 1908. He also leaves one sister, Mrs. F.C. Crego of Ionia, and a brother George McGregor, of Fremont township, besides five grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. He had been in failing health for some time, and went to Ann Arbor for treatment, and after undergoing a very serious operation, succumbed Tuesday morning August 7,
1928. The funeral was held Thursday, August 9th at 2:30 Pm from the farm residence and interment was in Lincoln cemetery near his home.
Mrs. Temperance(Allen) Coon Taken from the scrapbook of Anne Koyl, Newspaper unknown. Mrs. Temperance (Allen) Coon was born in Novi Seneca county, New York, Feb. 15, 1838. Her parents, Peter P. and Julia J, Allen, care to Michigan when she was but six weeks old and settled in Oakland county where she lived until her marriage to Charles E. Coon of Portland, Ionia County, also a native of New York state. In 1866 they came to Isabella Co., Coe township, when it was but a wilderness. They lived on their farm until March 1900, when he preceded her to the better land. They had a family of eight children, five sons and three daughters, three dying in infancy, one son, Frank living to be 17 years of age. There are now left to miss the loving council of a Christian mother two sons and two daughters: C.A. Coon
of Midland, J.E. Coon of Lansing, Mrs. C.L. Cronkright of Midland and Mrs Edward Axtel of Shepherd, with whom she had made her home for the post 15 years. There are also left to miss her love and cars, fourteen grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Out of a family of three brothers and three sisters Mrs. Wm. Kincaid of Grand Ledge is the only one who survives.
She has been a faithful Christian since she was 14 years old and was always affiliated with the Baptist denominations She fell asleep Thursday, May 19tht 1921, at 2:00 o'clock, being, 83 years, 3 months, and 4 days olds asleep in Jesus, blessed sleep, from which none ever wake to weep." The funeral was held Sunday at the Christian church, Rev I.W. Kimberling officiating.
Nelson Haskin Dead

Nelson R Haskin, son of Richard and Jane Haskin was born at Prince Albert, Ont., October 20, 1849, and died at the home of his granddaughter, Mrs. Clarence Parks, in the village on Thursday, September 19, 1929. Mr. Haskin was one of a family of ten children, six of
whom survive. At the age of twenty-two he came to Imlay City, Michigan, where he entered into business with John Borland, whose interest in the business he later purchased.
Mr. Haskin was a resident of Imlay City for over forty years where he held many positions of trust having served for some time as village president and later as justice of the
peace. He was e elected as a member of the state legislature in 1887. He was a deacon of the church of Imlay City and superintendent of the Sunday school for over twenty years,
On September 11, 1872 he was united in marriage to Ella L. Mosher, who passed away on May 70 192P. To this union seven children were born, five of whom survive, Bernice May Bloomfield of Springfield, Mass; Walter and Hugh of Detroit; David of Los Angeles, Cal.; Alice N. Stiles of
Bouthberry, Conn. He is also survived by three brothers and three sisters, eleven grandchildren and three great grandchildren. He was a member of the Masonic Blue Lodge for over fifty
years and also a member of the R.A.M. and Knights Templary and an honorary member of the Odd Fellow Lodge, Mr. Haskin came to Shepherd about fourteen years ago and conducted a dry goods business until he retired about eight years ago. He has been justice of the peace of Coe
township for several years and was honored and respected by all and fared for his genial and happy disposition. Short services were held at the house of his granddaughter, Mrs. Clarence Parks, Friday afternoon with Revs Mayhew officiating, and Saturday morning the body was taken to Imlay City where services were held in the afternoon at the Congregational church, conducted by Rev. L.Q. Cone. Masonic Charter services were conducted at the cemetery, which were attended by several Shepherd Masons.
Martin Burggraf

Martin Burggraf was born April 16, 1861 and departed this life December 27, 1928.
He was united in marriage to Mary A. Rack December 24, 1887, in the German Evangelical Lutheran Church in Cordington, Ohio, of which they were members. To this union were born three sons, one of whom died in infancy. He came to Michigan twenty-seven years ago and located on a farm in Chippewa township, where he has since resided. Mr. Burggraf made many friends, was honorable, a good citizen and always ready to assist in support of the church. There remains to mourn their loss Mary, his companion$ who is much afflicted; Edna R. and Henry G., the two sons,
four grandchildren, one sister in Ohio, and a large circle of friends who deeply sympathize with the bereaved companion and the sorrowing sons. Funeral services were held at the home Sunday with Rev. Simpson of Mt. Pleasant officiating and burial was made in Salt River cemetery.

Wayne Philetus Frost, son of Joseph and Emma Frost, was born Dec. 3, 1911 at the farm home near Shepherd, He passed away November 28, 1929, at the age of seven years, eleven months and twenty-five days. At the age of eight years he moved with his parents to Shepherd, where he has since resided. He was a Junior in Shepherd High Schools. The past two summers he has attended Citizens Military Training Camp at Camp Custer and Fort Bradley Bradys

Mrs. Margaret Brady Andrews
Mrs. U. G. Andrews died at her home in Shepherd, Mich.,
Sunday, July _5, 1908, after an illness of about three months.
The deceased, whose maiden name walk Margaret Brady, was born at Clyde, Ohio, June 11, 1867, and was at the time of her death,41 years and 24 days old. She was united in marriage to W. 0. Andrews December 21, 1886, at Fremont, Ohio, and to this union were born two daughters,
Mabel and May, Mabel having deported this life May 11, 1903.
She leaves to mourn her loss, besides a husband and daughter, an aged father, three sisters, and three brothers, and a host of friends. Her home was her world and she verified to its full meaning the saying that "Home is where mother is'', and it is there her loving presence will be sadly felt. The many beautiful floral offerings, mute tokens of love and sympathy, attest the high esteem in which she was held. We bow in humble submission to Him. who doeth all thing--- well, and that our loss is her gain. The funeral occurred at the family home in Shepherd
and she was laid to rest, beside the daughter, in the family plot in Salt River cemetery.
Lewis Hamilton

The sudden and tragic death of Lewis 9. Hamilton came as a great shock to his family and many friends. He was respected by all, an industrious, kind and honest man.
He was born in Logan County, Ohio, February 28, 1863 and died December 13, 1930-
He was married three times. His first wife was Mrs. Emma Keger and to this union were born seven children three of whom with the mother have died. He then married Emma A. Smith who bore him five children. Two of these and the mother are dead. The third wife was Emma C. Smith who survives him with the seven children, 21 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
One brother, two sisters, and six step children and many friends are also left to mourn their loss. Funeral services took place Tuesday, December 16, at 2 p.m. at the Coomer church with burial in the Salt River cemetery. The deceased was a faithful member of the Coomer church.

The Rev. W.H. Bell, of Shepherd conducted funeral services Friday morning at 10:30at the Pleasant Valley M.E. church, for Albert Harry, 60 years old and a old resident of that neighborhood, who died suddenly the preceding Tues. in the yard at the home of his son-in-law, Floyd Parrish. Interment was made in the Pine River cemetery,
Mr. Harry had gone to Midland with Mr. Parrish in the forenoon and on his return ate dinner and went into the yard to split sore wood. His lifeless body was found by his son-in-law at about two o'clock. He had been in poor health since an automobile wreck several years ago and his death is attributed to heart weakness. Mr. Harry's wife died in 1916 of burns caused by the explosion of a gasoline iron. He had since lived with the children.
Surviving Mr. Harry are three daughters, Mrs. James Rouse, Mrs. John Rouse, and Mrs. Floyd Parrish and four sons, Ferris, Hazen, Gerald, Celland Vernon. Three sisters and two brothers reside in Pennsylvania. Mrs. M.C. Lathrop of Shepherd is a cousin.
The deceased was born in Pennsylvania, Oct. 2. 1865 and came to Michigan at the age of 19. He was married to Nettie Ferris, who preceded him in death in 1892. Many friends of Mr. Harry will mourn with his relatives, the loss of a kindly and upright citizen.

Old Resident of Shepherd Numbered Legion of Friends in County.
While the community was in a way prepared---the sad news of the death of Mrs. Eva D. Hannett, which occurred in Detroit Tuesday, came as a shock to all Mrs. Hannet, had been a sufferer foursome time, but did not disclose her condition to her closest friends until about two months age, when she went to the hospital. For practically her whole life had been spent in our community where she proved herself a loyal friend and neighbor. Many a needy one has been made comfortable at her hands.0 Eva Dell Keith, eldest daughter of Marion and Mattie Cable Keith, was born in Williams County, Ohio, April 6. 1868 and died December 23, 1930, at the age of 62 years, 8 months and 17 days. With her parents she came to Salt River, now Shepherd, when ten years of age and had since made her home here. For many years she taught in various schools of the county, serving in this capacity with cheerful efficiency and sympathy that Lade her many life- long friends among her pupils. In October, 1917, she was united in marriage with
Thomas Hannett, who preceded her in death Oct. 24, 1925.
Mrs. Hannett was an active member of the M.E. Ladies Aid Society, the Order of the Eastern Star, the White Shrine and the Rebekahs and served as president of the Shepherd Alumni of 1930
She leaves to mourn her death, one sister, Mrs. Addie Fuller of this place, and two brothers, Ezra of Detroit, and Elmer of Gardiner, Oregon. A brother, Will, died at his home in Saginaw in January of 1927. Mrs. M. Burggraf Hangs Herself in the Garage Last Saturday.
Mrs. M. Burggraf, who lives northwest of Shepherd, ended her life Saturday, hanging herself in the garage. Only a short time before the body was discovered
her son, Henry who lived with her, had fixed the fire and with the family had left for Shepherd leaving a boy at home with Mrs. Burggraf. The boy, who was husking corn, went to the house
shortly after the others left and when he failed to find Mrs. Burggraf started an investigation and found her body hanging frog a beam in the garage. Evidently almost immediately after the members of the family had left the woman fashioned a rope from a sheet and taking a chair went to the out building where she fastened the sheet about her neck and over the beam and had then kicked the chair from beneath her. Mrs. Burggraf had been in feeble health for some time and deeply mourned the death of her husband who died several months ago. Funeral services were held at the home Tuesday.

Winfield S. Fordyce

OLD AND RESPECTED PIONEER PASSED AWAY VERY SUDDENLY SATURDAY
The sudden death of W.S. Fordyce care as a shock to the community last Saturday evening when he was discovered dead in his chair in the township clerk's office at about 6:30-
Mr. Fordyce had been in poor health for some time and Friday night had a very poor spell but was able to be out on Saturday attending to his duties. When he failed to appear at supper time Mrs. Fordyce became worried and requested Edwin Clevenger, a neighbor, to investigate and he found him as described above. In the passing of W.S. Fordyce, or "Scott" as he was
most familiarly known, Coe township lost one of its oldest pioneers. He came here with his parents in 1866 and they settled on the farm which he still owned at the time of his death and where he lived until about seven years ago when he moved to Shepherd.
Mr. Fordyce has always been held in high esteem by all who knew him and has held many positions of trust in the township. He was supervisor for 7 years, township treasurer for 2 years, and township clerk serving in this capacity at the tine of his death,
He was one of the oldest Odd Fellows in the state, having joined Salt River Lodge, No. 239, fifty six years ago as a charter member. He was also a member of the Rebekah order and serving as financial secretary. The funeral was held at the Christian church Wednesday afternoon, with the Odd Fellows conducting the burial services, and was largely attended. The board of supervisors which was in session at Mt. Pleasant recessed and attended as a body and were accompanied by many of the ex supervisors of Coe township and the business places here were closed. Winfield S. Fordyce, son of John W. and Sarah E. Fordyce, was born in Green county, Penn., Nov. 2, 1852, and died Saturday June 21, 1930. age 77 years, 7 months and 19 days.
He came to Michigan with his parents at the age of 14 years and located in Coe township where he has since resided. He was married to Clare Parkinson, July 4, 1876# and to this union two children were born, both dying several years ago. His first wife died March 14, 1897, and he was again united in marriage on July 20, 1899, to Mary A. Kirby, To them were born three children, two of whom died in infancy. He is survived by his widow, one daughter, Mrs. John Wright of Alma, and two grandchildren, Frances and Junior Wright of Alma, and a legion of friends and associates who mourn his departure.

He was united in marriage to Gladys Gaugier Nov. 14, 1913. To this union were born two daughters, Donalda, who is now 12, and Marjorie 10. Besides the bereaved widow and daughters he is survived by two sisters, Mrs. John Bruskotter and Mrs. Fred Kramer of Shepherd; seven brothers, Lewis of Owosso, Matt of Shepherd, Ed of Sumner, Arnold of St, Louis, Albert of
Appleton, Wis., Alex of Rapid City and Neil of Mt, Pleasant.
Funeral services were held at St. Vincent de Paul church Monday morning.

Particularly Sad Circumstances in Death of Oren Holliday
Oren Lewis Holliday, only son of Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Holliday wait born May 24, 1925 in Coe township, Isabella county; was taken seriously ill February 3rd and despite the fact that nothing neglected that loving hands and medical skill could do to prolong life, he died February 7th at the age of five years, eight months and twelve days.
He leaves to mourn their lose, his parents, a grandfather, a great grandfather, aunts, uncles and a host of friends. His time here was short but sweet for those who loved him and being an active little fellow he will be greatly missed by those who were his playmates.
Funeral services were conducted at his late home by W.H. Bell, pastor of the Christian church Monday afternoon, with interment in Salt River cemetery.

John Bruskotter, son of Henry and Anna Bruskotter was born at Ft. Jennings, Ohio, May 3, 1887.
His mother died when he was but eight months old.
He lived with his father until he was married May 16, 1909, to Miss Christina Doepker. To this union ten children were born, Mrs. Dorrie Oswald of St. Louis, Mildred of Saginaw,
Irene, Melvin, Elmer, James, John, Freda, and Charles at home, Alvers dying in infancy.
He also leaves his aged father and three sisters, Mrs. A. Recker and Miss Elizabeth Bruskotter of Fort Jennings and Mr. and Mrs. M.P. Doepker of Shepherd.
MELVIN SULLIVAN
Melvin Sullivan, sot. of James R. and Evelyn Sullivan, was born at Campbellsburg, Indiana, January 13, 1888 and departed this life Oct, 5. 1930, age 42 years, 8 months and 21 days.
In 1895 He was the third of a family of eight children, six of whom are still living, one sister having died in infancy. In 1905 he went to Rantoul, Illinois and resided there until 1918. During that time he was united in marriage to Lyle Bates. To this union three children were born: Harold James, Archie Leonard and Mary Frances, all of whom are at home.
in 1918 he moved to Salem, Indiana, and resided there two years. He then moved to Shepherd, Michigan, where with his family he has made his home since. He was a kind and loving husband, making friends with whom ever he met. He always had a stood word for everyone and was ever ready to assist one in need. He was a member of the Methodist church and also a member of the Shepherd Odd Fellow lodge. He leaves besides his family, four brothers, Dale,
Orval, Lee and Harry of Salem, Indiana; two sisters, Mrs. Everett Peden of Salem, Indiana and Mrs. Bert Jones of Campbellsburg, Indiana, and a host of other relatives and friends to mourn the loss of a loved one.
Call not back the dear departed,

Olive M. Converse Miller
Olive M Converse Miller, wife of James Miller, was born in Berrien county, Michigan, October 3, 1871, and departed this life July 14, 1927, being 56 years, 8 months, and 19 days old. In March 1923, she was united in marriage to James Miller with whom she has since resided in the village of Shepherd, until her death--two former husbands having preceded her to the Great Beyond.
She leaves to mourn their lose, her husband, James Miller, her mother Phila Converse, one sister, three brothers, her two sons, one daughter-in-law, and three grand children, besides numerous other relatives and friends. Those who knew her best were those who knew her true worth. Funeral services were held at the Christian church Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Burial was in Salt River cemetery.

Eunice Philomela King Converse
Eunice Philomela King, daughter of Phoebe and Job King, was born in the State of Ohio August 13, 1845; some few years later she moved with her parents to Berrien county, Michigan.
She was the ninth of a family of ten children, two of whom survive her. The eldest, Aunt Polly Merrill, who resides at Millsburg, is nearing the century mark, being 99 years and 11 months of age, and the youngest, Mrs. Mary Versaw of Benton Harbor, is in her seventy-fourth year. Her father was one of the pioneer preachers of Michigan, associated with the Baptist church.
Shortly after the Civil War, she was united in marriage to Alonzo Converse, who had been honorably discharged from the Union army, having been a member of the 5th Michigan infantry. To this union were born 6 children, four of whom survive. Gertrude, the first born, died at the age of three years, and Olive Miller passed away in Shepherd recently. With her husband, she moved to Isabella county in the early seventies, where she instituted the first Sunday school in Coe township, she being the superintendent, teacher etc. The Baptist church of which she had been a member since the age of 15, furnished the Testaments which she gave to her
scholars. One of these Testaments has been in the possession of one of the scholars since the gift was made. To write an outline of her life would be to write a book. Almost 68 years a Christian. Almost 60 years a mother. A pioneer in this section of Michigan, raising her children as only pioneer mothers could raise them. She knew what it was to be happy through service to others. She saw her children grow to manhood and womanhood. She saw the country grow from a wilderness to a garden. She finished her work. She kept the faith. She has gone to her reward. The immediate relatives whose hearts are saddened by the loss from their midst of one of God's noblest of woman are S.L. Converse of Union City, Michigan, and Temperance Cochran of Shepherd, J. E. Converse of Alma, besides 21 grandchildren, 2 sisters and a host of other relatives and friends who are saddened by her death, but consoled by the fact God has taken His loved one home. Her death occurred Saturday night, December 17, and the funeral was held Monday morning at the Christian church, Rev. Vanneter officiating. Burial was in Salt River cemetery.

Mrs. Della A. Cohoon Estes
Mrs. C.R. Taylor received a telegram from Atascadero, California, stating that her sister, Mrs. Walter E. Estes, had passed away on Sunday evening, March 20, 1927, at the age of 59 years, 6 months, and 4 days. Della A. Cohoon, second daughter of John C. and Mary A. Cohoon, was born in Isabella county, Michigan Sept. 16, i867. She was married to Walter H. Estes of Shepherd on September 15, 1890, and lived in Isabella county a number of years. Two children, Gladys M. and Mark R. were born to them. Mrs. Estes' health failed and they moved to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and for the past 6 years, have lived at Ataseadaro, California. Rebecca Jane Allen Hyde
Rebecca Jane Allen, daughter of John J. and Rebecca Allen, was born April 16, 1851, in Green township, Noble county, Indiana, and departed this life July 5, 1927, at the age of 76 years, 6 months, and 5 days. She resided in Noble county, Indiana, with her parents until the age of 13 Years, when they moved to Michigan and settled in Greenbush township, Clinton county, where she lived at the tire of her marriage to John Hyde, March 1841. To this union was born one eon, William J. Hyde. Her husband departed this life July 16, 191C). She leaves to mourn her lose one son, one granddaughter, Ruth Hyde, and four brothers, Sherman J., John Clinton, Perry G., and Chauncey D. Allen, also a host of friends and neighbors.

Alma Mary Wille Beebe
Alma Mary Beebe, eldest child of Mr. and Mrs. E.E. Wille, was born in Isabella county Michigan, July 30 1875, and answered her final call at Spokane, Washington, September 30, 1927.
She became a member of the Baptist church in Chippewa at the age of 18, in which church she remained a consistent worker during the rest of her life. In her youth she alternately taught and attended school and received her Life Certificate from Central State Teachers College at Mt. Pleasant. She was one of the group of six who formed the first class to be graduated
from this institution. This war in June 1903. Following this, she taught two years in Hesperia, Michigan, then two years in Indianapolis, Indiana. At this time, twenty years ago, a physical breakdown caused her to go to Denver, Colorado, where after a six months stay, she was able to resume teaching. She followed this profession for seven years in Colfax, Washington; twelve years ago, she went to Spokane, Washington, where she remained until her death.
On June 151 1919, she was united in marriage to John Guy Beebe, of Spokane. She leaves to mourn her lose, her husband, her parents, Mr. and Mrs. E.E. Wille of Mt. Pleasant, two sisters, Mrs. Pay Barton of Durand and Mrs. Ivy Vogel of Troy, Missouri, two brothers, Glenn Wille of Durand, and Stanley Wille of Mt. Pleasant. Funeral services took place at the home of her parents, South Main St. October 6, Rev. Morgan officiating.

John Caldwell
John Parker Caldwell was born in Rawdon county, Ontario, Canada, on October 7, 1855, and departed this life May 12, 1926, leaving him seventy-one years, five months, And three days old. He was united in marriage to Lydia A. Miller in the year 1842. To this union were born four children, Mrs. Addie Axtell of Shepherd, Mrs. Tressie Payne of Jackson, Dale Caldwell of Chippewa and Clair Lionel who died in infancy. He leaves to mourn his lose a wife, two daughters, one son, three grandchildren, one brother and two sisters, besides a host of other relatives and friends. He spent the greater part of his life in Michigan. Funeral services were held at his home Saturday at 10 A.M. Burial was in Salt River cemetery.

Julia Ann Howland Hitchcock
Julia Ann Howland Hitchcock, daughter of John R. and Betsy Howland, early pioneers of White Take township, Oakland county, was born August 11, 1844 and died October 22, 1926. She was the youngest of five children, all of whom are deceased except one sister, Mrs. Emeline Mathews of Levering, Michigan, who is 91 years of age. She was married March l1 1861, to Henry Hitchcock of White Lake township, who preceded her in death in 1922. Four children were born to this union all of whom survive, Clara, now Mrs. William Moyer, Ralph and Sam of Pleasant Valley and Bert of St. Louis, also 17 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. She has been a resident of
this community about 40 years, being one of the pioneers of Midland county.

William L. M. Davis
William L. M. Davis passed away on Thursday evening August 4, at the age of 74 years, 8 months and 20 days, at his home near Pleasant Valley where he has lived nearly 48 years.
He was born near Kingston, Ontario, November 15, 1852, and united in marriage to Miss Martha McLean at Midland, Michigan, January 23, 1889. To this union were born nine children, three of whom preceded him to the Great Beyond. He is survived by his wife, two sons, William at home, and Manley of Pleasant Valley, four daughter, Mrs. E. Jansen of Morgan, Michigan, Bessie of Lansing, Mrs. R.T. Kaufman of Pleasant Valley, and Irene at home, also six grandchildren. Besides these, he leaves three sisters, many cousins, nieces and nephews, and a large circle of friends to mourn their lose.

W.W. Finch
Mr. W.W. Finch was born June 7, 1853, in Wayne county, where he spent the early years of his life. In 1893, he came to Isabella county, and in 1901 he married Mary Aylesworth. August 29, 1912, he moved to Shepherd where he passed away at his home April 4, 1925. He leaves to mourn their loss his wife, Mrs. W. W. Finch, one daughter and five grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Monday, Rev. Kimberling of St. Louis officiating.

Nancy Stoutenburgh Brown
Nancy Stoutenburgh, daughter of the late James and Melinda Stoutenburgh, was born in Reich township, Ontario, February 9, 1842, and died in Shepherd, Michigan, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Frank Burt, June 22, 1927. She was united in marriage to Ira Brown, March 7, 1871. They immediately came to Michigan and located in Flint. In May 1881, they moved to the home where she passed away. To this union were born six children, May and Joseph passing away in infancy, G. Oren of Royal Oak, J. Edward, Mrs. Frank Burt, and Walter of Shepherd.
Besides the husband and four children, she leaves to mourn their loss five grandchildren, and two sisters, Mrs. J. H. O'Brien of Uxbridge, Ontario, and Mrs. Charles E. Brown of Flint, and other relatives. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. I.W. Kimberling at the F.E. Burt home Friday afternoon. Interment in Riverside cemetery, Alma, Michigan.

William D. Keith
William D. Keith was born near West Unity, Williams county, Ohio, May 25th, 1866, and departed this life January 4th, 1927, at his home on 534 N.3rd St, Saginaw, Michigan.
At the age of 11, he came with his parents to Salt River (now Shepherd), Michigan. When but a young man he commenced to fire on the A.A.R.R., Soon being promoted to engineer, afterwards transferring to the P.P.R.R. in whose employ he remained until the time of his death.
He was married to Stella LaPort in 1894. To this union three sons and one daughter were born, Chester passing away in infancy, and Dula Ester in May 1918. He leaves to mourn their lose his wife, two sons, Dale and Delbert and one grand daughter, Dula, all of Saginaw, two brothers, Elmer of Gardiner, Oregon, and Ezra of Detroit, Michigan. two sisters, Mrs. Thomas
Hannett and Mrs. Charles Fuller of Shepherd, and other relatives.
The relatives from out of town who attended the funeral were Ezra Keith of Detroit, Eva D. Hannett and Addie Fuller of Shepherd, Delilah and Carrie Fisher of Alvordtons Ohio, Linus Nicolen of Ithaca, C. Mrs. Vera B. Struble Bronson
Mrs. Vera B. Bronson 67, of 636 Clark Ave., wife to the president and general manager of Economy Hills, Ward W. Bronson, died early today at Memorial Hospital where she had bee a patient since January 7. Mrs. Bronson had been ill for the past eight months.
The body will rest at the Jennings Lyon Chapel where funeral services will be held Wednesday. Burial will be in Salt River cemetery at Shepherd. Born in Shepherd, April 5, 1890, she was the
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Irad Struble and graduated from high school there. After attending Central StateTeachers College, she taught school in Elsie for three years. She was married to Mr. Bronson at Shepherd on June 24, 1914. After living in Alma, she moved to Owosso, living here for the past ten years. A member of the First Methodist church, she was also a member of the D.A.R. and the Shiawassee county Humane Society. Survivors include her husband, a son, David of Owosso, two daughters, Mrs. Charles Skinner of Alma, and Mrs. Chester Harvie of Monterey, California, and ten grand children. Mrs. Alice Bronson Skinner (Mrs. Charles Skinner) died March 8, 1993, Mesa, Arizona.

Charles A. Balch was born at Gerard, Mahoning Co., Ohio, Oct. 1, 1852, and departed this life June 6, 1916 at the age of sixty-three years, eight months and five days, having resided in Shepherd from which place he was called home. He was the eldest of a family of seven children, Mrs. Laura Barden of Spokane, Wash, Albert of St. Louis, Mich., John of Pleasant Valley, Mich., Henry and James of Tacoma, Washington, and Fred of Three Rivers, Mich., all of whom survive him. He left the state of his birth when nine years of age coming to Michigan with his parents, locating in Jasper, Midland Co., Michigan and helped to clear the land where his early days were spent in farming. He was united in marriage with Anna E. Clark, June 22, 1879, and to this union eight children were born. He was a man of sterling worth, recognizing God in the
plan of life and all nature as well, a king and loving father and very devoted to his home and family. He had been in failing health the part ten years and was Confined to his bed over five months, a patient sufferer, being cared for by his loving and faithful wife.
Having left abundant evidence oz victory through faith iii Jesus' love, the end care peacefully Tuesday morning at a little after four o'clock while the birds were singing their sweetest song. He was a loyal member of the _____ and also a member of the Grand Order.

June 26, 1916 aged 70 years, 6 months and 20 days. He was married to Roxy Travis Nov. 14, 1873.No children were born to this union. He leaves a wife, one sister, Mrs. J.L. Judson, of Plymouth, Ohio; two brothers, John of Springfield, Ont., and R. Clinton, of this place. The funeral was held at the M.E. church Wednesday forenoon a 11:00 o’clock, Rev Davis officiating. Interment in Salt River cemetery.

Peter H. McConnell, was born April 12, 1836 at Wayne County, Ohio. He was united in marriage to Margaret Copenhaven in April 1860. To this union were born four daughters and three sons. Six of whom are still living. Mrs. Ella Bryan of this place, Mrs. Bell Lee of Helena, Miss., Mrs. Jennie Hyatt, of Vaughnsville, Ohio, Mrs. Bertha Barnes of Paulding, Ohio, Edwin of Miles City, Mont., and Frank, remaining at home to care for his parents. John, the youngest one, died Aug. 30, 1904.Mr. McConnell came with his family to this county in 1900.He was a member of the Chippewa Methodist church. He was identified with the Masonic Lodge of Sullivan, Ohio in 1872.He departed this life August 25, 1916 leaving a devoted companion and children, besides a host of friends to mourn his decease. Rev. C.E. Davis conducted the services in the Coe church Monday pm Aug 28, 1916.Burial in Salt River cemetery.

Mrs. Eunitah Hudnut-Gulick,
Mrs. Eunitah Hudnut Gulick, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Stephen Hudnut, was born in Union township, Isabella county, Michigan, July 28, 1897, and departed this life April 2, 1929, at the age of thirty-two years. On August 1, 1916, she was married to Roger Gulick to whom she has been a faithful and loving wife during these years. To them were born four children, Dawn, Lorraine, Joseph, and Ione, wll of whom, with their father and her father, two brothers, William and Stanley, one sister, Mrs. Maude Humenorder, other relatives and a host of friends, mourn their loss. Mrs. Gulick sought and found her Savior in peace and joy to her soul while on her sick bed, and while she greatly desired to get well, she felt it was well with her soul.
The funeral services were held at the Christian church in Shepherd, conducted by Rev. Daniel Skanes of the Mt. Pleasant R. M. church. Interment was made in Shepherd cemetery to await the glorious resurrection.
Emily White Kinter

Emily White was born Feb. 27, 1851, in Calhoun County, Michigan, and was united in marriage with Mr. Henry Kinter, July 4, 1869, locating on the farm near Shepherd where she lived until about three years ago when they moved to Shepherd where life was enjoyed until the hand of
affliction was laid upon her, and after much suffering she was taken to Brainard Hospital, Alma, where she underwent an operation. After a hard struggle for life against the intense heat was compelled to yield to the inevitable and passed to the home beyond August 20, 1916.
She was a devoted member of the Methodist Episcopal church in Shepherd for a number of years. She will be greatly missed in church circles and by her many friends of the entire community.
She leaves to mourn her decease, a kind husband, one sister Martha Sislinger, of Santiago, Cal., and Charlie White, of Omaha, Neb. and one adopted son, Rowland Kinter, of Preston, Idaho. Also a host of friends and neighbors. Services were held at the Methodist church Tuesday, Aug. 22, Rev. D.E. Davis officiating. The remains were taken to Detroit Wednesday morning.

Margaret Ellen Doran Cline
Margaret Ellen Doran was born antiphon, Senaca county, Ohio, September 24, 1863, and passed away December 30, 1927, at the age of 64 years, 3 months and 6 days. At the age of two years, she came to Michigan with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Solomon Doran, both of whom have departed this life. At the age of twenty-three, she was united in marriage to Samuel R. Cline. To this union were born four children; George W. Cline of St. Louis, Rolland S. Cline of Shepherd; Mrs. George Raycraft of Alma, and Mrs. William Hook of near Shepherd. She also leaves to mourn their lose, her husband, Samuel R. Cline, one brother, John W. Doran who made his
home with her for the past two years, and one sister, Mrs. Arthur Nelson of Alma. Fourteen grandchildren and other relatives with a host of friends. The funeral services were held at the home, conducted by Rev. V.R. Russell of St. Louis. Burial in Salt River cemetery.
Mrs. Sam Cline dated Jan. 5, 1928
The funeral of Mrs. Sam Cline, an old resident of this vicinity for many years, was held at the family residence near the south county line Monday afternoon. Mrs. Cline
was stricken with apoplexy Thursday and lived but a short time. She leaves her husband, two daughters, Mrs. Hallie Raycraft, near Alma, Mrs. Eva Hookcast of Shepherd, two sons, George of St. Louis and Raol of this village.

Syecon Louisa Gates Faunce
Syecon Louisa, daughter of Rev. Orrin and Rachel Louisa Gates, was born Nov. 13, 1849, at Chardon, Geauga county, Ohio, and died May 21q 1915, at Brainard hospital, Alma, Mich. at her death being 65 years 6 months and 8 days old. Early in life, she with her parents, moved to Trumbull county, Ohio. At the age of 13 years, she became a member of the Christian church and has lived a consistent Christian life ever since. Nov. 26, l866, she was united in marriage to William Faunce. Soon after their marriage they moved to Monroe county, Michigan, where they resided seven years. During this time the two oldest children, Eva Estella and Orwin Leroy, were born. From there they moved to Allen county, Ohio, where they resided one and one-half years. At this place the youngest child, Lila Bell, was born. Feb. 2L, 1877, they moved to Isabella county, Mich., onto a farm. which they bought on section 21 and on which they have since resided. Rev. Orrin Gates, father of Mrs. Faunce, was one of the pioneer ministers of Ohio, and has preached at St. Louis, Forest Hill, Shepherd, and other places in Michigan. He was instrumental in building the church at Shepherd. She leaves to mourn their loss her husband, three children, Mrs. Eva McCellan, 0. Leroy Faunce, and Mrs. Lila Shepherd, one grandson, Merle McCellan, all of Shepherd, and five sisters and one brother,
The funeral was held at the Christian church Monday at two p.m., conducted by Pastor Wolfor, assisted by Rev.J.C. Meese of St. Louis, Michigan who was formerly pastor here
for four years. Of her five sisters, Mrs. Jennie Martin of St. Louis and her brother Prof. Errett Gates of Chicago University were present at the funeral.
In this sad bereavement the family feel the loss of a devoted and loving wife and mother.

Archie Bradt
Archie Bradt was born in West Williams, Ontario, Feb. 17, 1881. He died at his home, Shepherd, Mich., Jan. 5th, 1916. He leaves a father, three brothers, two sisters, besides his widow, who was one of the most Patient and devoted of wives. His mother preceded him to the better land three weeks ago. He came with his parents to Michigan 28 years ago, when but a boy six years old, and resided at Chesaning, Saginaw county, for about 6 years, when they removed to Midland county, where they resided for about 6 years, where he continued to reside with his parents until his marriage, which occurred Feb. 25th, 1905, to Miss Grace Childs. He then moved to Hermes ton, Oregon, where he accepted a position with the federal government of construction work which position he was obliged to resign after two years on account of illness and returned to Mich. and after regaining his health, took up his residence at Alma, Mich. in a beautiful bungalow built with his own hands, where he was employed as architect contractor and builder for about three years, when overwork was again responsible for poor health and was obliged to give up hard work. He then returned to Shepherd where he spent the remainder of his days among his relatives and old friends. He was always industrious and a hard worker from his boyhood, was always liked by his employees and his wish that when at work they abstain from vulgar and profane language was always respected by them. The funeral was conducted at the home by Rev. W. Kimberling, pastor of the Christian church.
Forrest H. Gifford

Forrest H. Gifford was born in St. Louis, Michigan, January 5th, 1870 and departed this life in Memphis, Tennessee, June 28th, 1916, at the age of 46 years, 5 months and 23 days.
He was the son of Henry and Zora Gifford. His mother preceded him in death 42 years ago.
He leaves an aged father, three sisters, Mrs. Harry Bishop of Pittsburg, Pa., Mrs. Thomas Girven of this place, and Mrs. Fred Mahody of New York city, also one had brother, Lee Gifford, of Ridgeway, this state, and many other relatives to mourn his demise. The funeral was held from the M.E. Church on Wednesday July 5th, Rev. I. W. Kimberling officiating and the remains laid to rest in Salt River Cemetery.

Charles Leon Mcclintic
Charles Leon McClintic, son of Arthur W. and Maud McClintic, was born July 26, 1902, in Shepherd, and passed away October 13, at the university Hospital, Ann Arbor,
having attained the age of 26 years, two months, and 17 days. He was married on July 3, 1923 to Ethel Priest. To this union were born two sons, Leo and Arthur N., and one daughter, Edna May.
He is survived by his wife, three children, his parents, six brothers, Dwight, Hollie, George, Carl, Elton, and Floyd, his grandfather, Stephen Kennedy and his grandmothers, Mrs. Armstrong, and Mrs. F. McClintic, as well as numerous other relatives. His character and disposition were such that he made friends wherever he went and he was always ready to lend a helping hand. He will be sorely missed, not only by the members of his family, but by all in the neighborhood where he spent his life.

Electa M. Warner Bissell
Mrs. Electa M. Bissell, widow of A.W. Bissell, died Wednesday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Charles Cazier, in this village, with whom she has been making her home.
Electa M. Warner was born in Pewamo in November i848. On May 10, 1868, she became the wife of A.W. Bissell, also of Pewamo, and they continued to make their home there
until 1890 when they moved to Shepherd. Following 14 years residence here they moved to Mt. Pleasant and Mrs. Bissell maintained her residence on South Main street after the
death of her husband ten years ago, but for the past few months has made her home here with her daughter. In January, Mrs. Bissell was stricken with apoplexy which left her in a weakened condition. A second stroke was suffered in February and the third one on April 20 resulted in her death. Mrs. Bissell was the mother of eight children, two of them deceased. Five sons and one daughter survive. The daughter is Mrs. Charles Cazier of Shepherd, and the sons
are N.O. Bissell of Owosso, P.Y!. Bissell of Shepherd, L.D. Bissell of Lansing, T.O.Bissell of Philadelphia, and A.C. Bissell of Ludington. The funeral was held from her home at 515 S.Main street In Mt. Pleasant at 3:30 Friday afternoon.

James Armstrong
James Armstrong was born April 27th, 1866, in Chippewa township, and died December 31, 1915, at the age of 49 years, and eight months. He was married to Carrie Franciso on Nov. 24, i886;
to this union four daughters were born, three of which are still living Their mother passing to the life beyond October 31, 1894. He was again married, to Alice L. Kennedy Sept. 7th,
All his life has been spent in this vicinity and the last few years in Shepherd, Michigan. He was one of eight children, three sisters and five brothers, after having ill health for several months, he was compelled to yield to the final summons. He is survived by his wife and three daughters, Mrs. Marie Burgess, Mrs. Bernice Dean, and Mrs. Bessie Rhoades, all of Toledo, Ohio, also four brothers, Charles of Mt. Pleasant, Mich., Will of Deerfield township this county, Grant of Detroit, Mich. and Frank of Chippewa township, this county, and three sisters, 14ra. Ellen Maybee, Mrs. Edna Richardson, both of this county, and Mrs.
Alice LaBell of Owosso, Mich. Services were held at the M.E. church Monday at 1 o'clock, Rev. O.E. Davis officiating. Burial in Salt River cemetery.

Sarah McMillan Milliken
Sarah, daughter of John and Sarah McMillan, was born in Pennsylvania, July 28, 1841 and passed away at the depot in Shepherd December 30, 1916, wheals waiting for the train to go to Ionia to spend New Years with her five sisters. She was united in marriage to Henry Milliken on March 21, 1866 at Rippen, Wisconsin. They came to Coe township in 1873 where they have since resided.
To this union five children were born, four of whom are living besides these she leaves to mourn their lose her husband, 16 grandchildren, five sisters, other relatives, and a host of friends. She was a kind and loving wife and mother, self-sacrificing always doing for others.
She confessed Christ and united with the church of this place thirteen years ago.
Funeral services were held at the M.E. church Monday afternoon, Rev. L.L. Dewey officiating.
Gertrude La Verne Clark, the daughter of R.D. and Sarah Clark was born at Shepherd, Michigan, Feb. 13, 1889 and passed from this life Wednesday morning, Dec. 8th, 1920 at the home of her parents in this village. She was united in marriage to Vern R. Walker, Dec. 24, 1908.To this union one child, Dorothy Louise, was born. Mrs. Walker was loved and respected by those who knew her in life and her early departure in life will be regretted with sorrow by many friends. She is survived by her husband who is seriously ill in Howell, Michigan, one daughter, her father and mother, and one brother, M.H.Clark of Detroit.
Hannah K. Alvord, daughter of Edward E. and Belinda Alvord, was born in the county of Hillsdale, Michigan, Dec 20, 1859. In the year 1867 she came with her parents to what was then the village of Salt River, now Shepherd. She attended the public schools, where her aptitude and devotion resulted in her graduation, and later she successfully taught school in Isabella county, gaining wide and favorable acquaintance. Feb. 23, 1879, at the age of 20 years she was united in marriage with Wm. H. Joslin, of St. Louis, Gratiot county, which proved a happy marriage during these 41 years. Three sons were born to this union, Roy E. and Fred E. Joslin, who survive her, and a son who passed from life in infancy.
Ella L. Mosher was born in Mount Clemens, October 9, 1855, daughter of Isaiah Walker and Julia Griffith Mosher. She was married September 11, 1872, to Nelson Haskin of Imlay City. To this union were born seven children, five boys and two girls. Of these Harry Allen died at the early age of 2 years and Norman Lewis at the age of 33.She is survived by her husband, Nelson Haskin, two daughters, Mrs. Stanley F. Bloomfield of Springfield, Mass., and Mrs. Clarence Stiles of Southberry, Conn., and three sons, Walter Nelson and Hugh Verue of Detroit, and
David Ervin of California, also 11 children. Burial in Imlay City.
