ROSES FOR THE LIVING

 

                                                           Miles A. Drallette

 

     Soon after the village of Weidman was started the local meatmarket was sold by Max

Gerard to George Drallette, who had come here from Bellevue.  George immediately bought

Three hogs, and put the meat on sale.  “Say” said Gerard, “you won’t sell that much in a

month.”  But George did.  At four o’clock every morning his meat wagon was on the road,

and he sold much more than the three hogs the first month.  This was the start of the Drallette

store.  The present owner and manager, Miles Drallette, shown above, was born at Bellevue

in 1884.  After trying telegraphy, he took a course of bookkeeping at Big Rapids and entered

the firm of Drallette & Son with a set of books that is up-to-the-minute in efficiency.

     The tie in the picture shown above is not a new fangled swing contraption.  The picture

was taken outdoors, and in the picture were shown five generations:  Mrs. Olive Conklin,

Mrs. Geo. Drallette, Miles Drallette, Kenneth Drallette and Dee Ann Drallette.

     The Drallette Store under Miles’ management, and the help of his sons, Kenneth and

Wendell, has held its place as a Weidman institution, and has developed its dry goods and

men’s furnishings and grocery departments into an increasing business.

     Miles makes a study of merchandising, and every detail of this successful store is under

his direct supervision.
