   Lillian Marguerite Kirkey, infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Kirkey, was buried Monday morning.

1933

Isabella County Times-News, April 27, 1933

Joseph James Kirkey

 

   Joseph James Kirkey, aged 33, died in the University hospital, Ann Arbor, Thursday following a serious illness of two weeks.

   For the past few years he has made his home in Cleveland and Detroit.  This winter he has been at the home of his parents.

   Mrs. Kirkey preceded him in death about three years ago.

   He leaves to mourn their loss two daughters, Sue Ann three years old and Donna Lee six years old, one son, Bobby eight years old.  His step-father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. E. Wilkinson, two sisters, Lorena and Kathleen of Mt. Pleasant, three brothers, Harry of Mt. Pleasant, Louis and Bernard of Detroit.

   Funeral services were held at Sacred Heart Church Saturday morning with Rev. John Kucinski celebrating the mass.  Interment was made in Mt. Calvary cemetery.

Charles Kirkey

 

   Solemn Requiem Mass was held at the Sacred Heart Church, Saturday morning, October 7, at ten o'clock for Charles Kirkey, retired businessman of Mt. Pleasant who died at his home on North Lansing, Wednesday, October 4.

   Burial was made in the Calvary cemetery.  The officiating clergymen were: The Reverend Father L. J. Farquharson, The Reverend Father Zoskowski, and The Reverend Father Grant.  J. J. Rush was in charge of arrangements.

   Mr. Kirkey, who was born in Marmora, Canada on July 1, 1860, is survived by his wife, Philomena; four  daughters, Marie McDonald, Agatha Straker, Josephine Kirkey and Ann Keenan; four sons, Leo, Francis, and Walter, and Joseph of Detroit.

Philomena Kirkey

 

   Mrs. Philomena Kirkey died this morning at her home at 423 South Lansing street.  She had been ill since January.

   She was born September 12, 1871 at Owen Sound, Ontario, Canada, and liver here for 65 years.  She was a member of Sacred Heart Church.

   Survivors are four sons, Leo, F. J. "Dutch", and Walter Kirkey of Mt. Pleasant, and Joseph Kirkey of Lansing, four daughters, Mrs. Elwood McDonald, Mrs. Clarence Keenan, Mrs. James Straker, and Josephine Kirkey, three sisters, Mrs. Joseph Sieser, of Buffalo, N. Y., Mrs. Catherine Allen, Pontiac, and Mrs. Agnes Wilkinson, Shore Wood, Wisconsin, 15 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

   Rosary service will be at 8 p.m. Friday at her home on S. Lansing street.  Stinson Funeral Home is in charge of the funeral arrangements.  The funeral mass will be said at 10 p.m. Saturday in the Sacred Heart church.  Burial will be in Calvary cemetery.

Daily Times-News, January 3, 1961

E. C. McDonald

 

   Elwood Clinton McDonald of Route 1, Farwell died December 31 in Clare General Hospital.  Funeral services were held from the Stinson Funeral Home Monday, January 2 at 2 p.m. with Reverend G. Edgar Schade conducting the rites.  Burial was in Denver Cemetery.

   McDonald was 64 years old, born July 12, 1896 in Prairie Depot. Ohio.  He was retired from the Ann Arbor Railroad for 15 years.

   Surviving are: his wife, Marie; sons, Dale McDonald and Charles McDonald of Mt. Pleasant, Harold McDonald of Belleville, Illinois; daughters, Gloris Jones of Cairo, West Virginia; Ruth Grewe of Mt. Pleasant, Betty McCrimmon of Marion; a sister, Mrs. Sadie Spickerman of Rosebush and a brother, James McDonald of Mt. Pleasant.

Walter Kirkey Dies Today at CMC Hospital

 

   Walter C. Kirkey, 423 N. Lansing, Mt. Pleasant, died today (November 25) at Central Michigan Community Hospital.

   He was born in Isabella County March 4, 1903.

   Funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 27 at 9:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church with interment in Calvary Cemetery.  A rosary service will be conducted at 8 p.m. Tuesday, November 26 at the J. J. Rush Funeral Home.

   Mr. Kirkey is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Stanley (Shirley) Phelps, Mrs. Lynn (Jean) Jones and Mary Louise Kirkey, all of Mt. Pleasant, three brothers, Leo, Francis and Joseph, all of Mt. Pleasant; four sisters, Mrs. Marie McDonald, Mrs. Agatha Straker, Mrs. Ann Keenan and Miss Josephine Kirkey, all of Mt. Pleasant; and six grandchildren.

F. L. Kirkey Dies at 65 In Detroit

 

   Detroit - Francis Louis (Lou) Kirkey, 65, of Detroit, a former resident of Mt. Pleasant, died Monday in the Kretzschmar Nursing Home in Detroit.  He was born April 14, 1903 in Leaton.

   Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church with burial in the Calvary Cemetery.

   Rosary services will be held on Wednesday evening at 8:30 p.m. in the J. J. Rush Funeral Home.

   Surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Adelbert (Lorena) Eaton of Midland and Mrs. Ray (Kate) Weeks of Milwaukee, Wis., and several nephews and cousins.

Marie McDonald

 

   Marie V. McDonald, 77, Marion, former resident of Mount Pleasant, died July 25 at Mercy Hospital, Cadillac.

   She was born August 11, 1897, in Mt. Pleasant.  She had been employed for several years as a cook.  She was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church, Marion, and the Jolly Workers Club.

   Funeral services were this morning at St. Agnes Catholic Church, Marion, Fr. Melvin Fox officiating.  Burial was at Middle Branch Township Cemetery.  Rosary services were Sunday night at the Fosnaught Funeral Home, Marion.

   Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Fen (Elizabeth) McCrimmon, Marion, Mrs. Harry (Gloris) Jones, Cairo, W. Wa., and Mrs. Vernon (Ruth) Grewe, Gladwin; three sons, Dale, Mount Pleasant, Charles, Tucson Ariz.,  and Harold, Belleville, Ill.; two sisters, Miss Josephine Kirkey, Mount Pleasant, and Mrs. Carroll (Agatha) Rolland, Grand Rapids; three brothers, Joseph Kirkey, Fowlerville; Leo and F. J. Kirkey, Mount Pleasant; 17 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Agatha Roland

 

   Agatha (Babe) Kirkey Roland, 63, 802 E. Maple, died Nov. 14 at Blodgett Memorial Hospital, Grand Rapids.

   She was born Nov. 24, 1911, in Mount Pleasant.

   She is survived by her husband, Carroll; brothers, Francis (Dutch) Kirkey and Leo Kirkey, Mount Pleasant, and Joseph Kirkey, Lansing; a sister, Josephine Kirkey, Mount Pleasant; and several nieces and nephews.

   Services were this morning at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, Fr. John Thome officiating.  Burial was at Calvary Cemetery.

   A rosary service was Sunday evening at the J. J. Rush Funeral Home.

Leo A. Kirkey

 

   Leo A. Kirkey, of Mount Pleasant, died Tuesday at Pleasant Manor Nursing Home in Mount Pleasant.  He was 80.

   Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Mount Pleasant, with the Rev. C. N. McEachin officiating.  A scripture service will be Thursday at 7 p.m. at the Lux-Rush Funeral Home in Mount Pleasant.  Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery.

   Friends may visit the funeral home after 1 p.m. Thursday.

   A lifetime resident of the area, Mr. Kirkey was born on Nov. 21, 1899 in Mount Pleasant.  He was employed by the Dow Chemical Co. from 1942 until his retirement in 1962.

   He is survived by two brothers, Francis "Dutch" of Mount Pleasant, and Joseph, of Lansing; one sister, Josephine Kirkey, of Mount Pleasant, and many nieces and nephews.

   Mr. Kirkey was preceded in death by his parents and one sister.

Josephine C. Kirkey

 

   Josephine C. Kirkey, 76, of Mt. Pleasant, died Thursday, May 12, 1983 at Central Michigan Community Hospital.

   Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church in Mt. Pleasant, with Monsignor Frank Murray officiating.  Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Mt. Pleasant.

   The Catholic Daughters of Sacred Heart Church will recite a rosary Sunday at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.  There will be a Scripture service Sunday at 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

   Memorials may be made to the Sacred Heart Academy Foundation.

    A lifelong resident of Mt. Pleasant, Miss Kirkey was born Dec. 12, 1906 in Mt. Pleasant to Charles and Philomena Rose Kirkey.

   She graduated from Sacred Heart in 1925 and earned a teaching degree from Central Michigan College.  She taught school in Isabella County for 44 years - 26 years at Kinney School, retiring in 1972.  She was a member of Sacred Heart Church, the Michigan Education Association and the Catholic Daughters of Sacred Heart Church.

   She is survived by two brothers, Francis "Dutch" Kirkey of Mt. Pleasant and Joseph Kirkey of Fowlerville.

Margueritte Kirkey

March 10, 1909 - Oct. 3, 1997

 

   Margueritte Kirkey, 88, of Lansing and formerly of Mt. Pleasant, passed away on Friday, Oct. 3, 1997, at the Tendercare-West Nursing Home in Lansing.

   Funeral services are Monday at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Mt. Pleasant with Father Thomas McNamara officiating.

   Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Mt. Pleasant.

   Friends may call at Helms Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant today from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.  A wake service will be held this evening at the funeral home.

   Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.   Envelopes are available at the funeral home.

   Margueritte was born March 10, 1909, in Lexington, KY., the daughter of Charles Henry and Mary (Patrick) Henry.  She married Joseph T, Kirkey.

   Margueritte was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church.  She was active in the Altar Society at the church.  She was also a member of the M. E. A.  She was a graduate of Central State Teachers College.  Margueritte taught school for the Dearborn Public School System in the late 1930s and 40's, she also taught at Fancher Elementary School in Mt. Pleasant in the 1960s.

   She is survived by three sons, Robert T. Kirkey and his wife Mary, of Columbus, Ohio, David N. Kirkey and his wife Donna, of Lansing and James H. Kirkey and his wife Alicia of Lansing; 10 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

   She was preceded in death by both parents, her husband, Joseph T. Kirkey on Dec 29, 1992; one brother, and a daughter, Mary.

Vera Lucille Kirkey

Sept. 26, 1904 - Oct. 28, 1999

 

   Vera Lucille Kirkey, age 95, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away Thursday, Oct. 28, 1999.

   A Mass of Christina Burial will take place on Monday, Nov. 1, 1999 at 11 a.m. from Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Robert Byrne officiating.  Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Mt. Pleasant.  A wake service will be held Sunday evening at 7:30 p.m. at the Clark Funeral Chapel.

   The family of Vera Kirkey will receive friends at the Clark Funeral Chapel from 7-9 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 30, and from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 31.  There will also be visitation at Sacred Heart Catholic Church on Monday from 10 a.m. to the time of service.  Those wishing to make a memorial contribution may consider the Sacred Heart Academy Foundation.

   Vera was born on Sept. 26, 1904 in Mt. Pleasant, the daughter of William and Laura (Wilson) Brondstetter.

   Vera had been employed in the past as a salesperson for many of the businesses in downtown Mt. Pleasant.  Vera was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.  She also was a 60-year member of the Women of the Moose Lodge No. 195.

   Vera is survived by her daughters, Shirley Phelps (Stanley), Jean Jones (Lynn) and Mary Joslin, all of Mt. Pleasant; 10 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; sisters Bernice Wonders of Livonia and Arlene Sigourney of Tucson, Ariz.

   Vera was preceded in death by her son, Charles Joseph Kirkey in 1947; sisters Mabel Warner and Gladys Kirkey; brothers Joseph Brondstetter and Cecil Brondstetter; a granddaughter, Delinda Marie Phelps; and her former husband, Walter Kirkey.
