Hervey A. Beutler was born in Sherman township, April 4, 1904. He graduated from
Weidman high in the eleventh grade, graduated from Mt. Pleasant High, and received a
degree of A. B. from Central State Normal. He taught several years in various country
schools, and for two years was superintendent of Casnovia schools. He went to Standish as
Superintendent of schools in 1929, and his standing there is reflected in the following taken
from the Arenac County Independent:
“Mr. Beutler has been in our community a full year, and during that time people have
learned that he is a capable man for the work he has undertaken, and that he is willing to
co-operate with anything for the good of the school. During the building of the new addition
he was greatly handicapped in the regular schedule of his classes, but he kept smiling and did
well, despite the hindrances. He has kept in close touch with the progress of the work on
the new school and was always on the job in behalf of the district. In his work he is general-
ly liked by pupils and teachers and has had no trouble in producing maximum results in
school work. People of the school district are glad he is in control at this time because they
feel that the property will be cared for in the right manner.
