(transcribed by: L. Johnson)
George Smith was born in Weidman in 1904, and passed his boyhood in this village. He
graduated from Weidman High in 1923, and took a course of instruction in Ferris Institute.
He has held positions with an insurance company at Lansing, the Chicago Lumber Co.,
operating in Arkansas, where George was employed two years; and the Fisher Body Co., at
Memphis, Tenn.
He is now with Whittlesey, McLean & Co., brokers, of Detroit, and is making good.
Right here is a good place to say that Mrs. Smith has given to her adopted country two
very promising young citizens.
Years ago he learned to play the saxophone passably well. It made him popular with the
young folks, but we hear as George grows older the sax, is less and less in evidence; which
is as it should be, for that instrument never has made much of a hit with the older generation.
George comes home whenever he can, and is always interested in everything going on in
the old town.
