Fred S. Neubecker
(transcribed by: L. Johnson)
The friendly gentleman whose likeness you see above is none other than Fred S. Neu-
becker. He was born in Formosa, Canada, 72 years ago, coming to Michigan 12 years
later. For many years he was employed by the Pere Marquette Railroad. He worked his
way along the usual route of railroad men to freight conductor, then Passenger Conductor,
and Superintendent of railroad yards at Grand Rapids. In 1920 he came to Weidman and
purchased the hardware business of Stephen Rau. This business is now being carried on by
his daughter, Margaret, and son Quentin.
Being endowed with a happy disposition and a pleasant smile, Mr. Neubecker has made
many friends in this community. We salute you, Fred, and we are glad you came to our
village to live and hope you stay a long time. Weidman is fortunate in having men like you
living in our community.
