Chauncey R. Gillett
The above picture is that of Chauncey R. Gillett, better known to everyone as “Ray.” Ray
was born way down in Bradley County, Tennessee, on August 28, 1891.
In 1908 he enlisted in the Army and was assigned to the Coast Artillery Division, serving
As a Private and later as a Bugler. After three years of service he received his Honorable
Discharge and came to Weidman, where his parents, Doctor and Mrs. Gillett, were then
making their home.
On November 26, 1913, he was united in marriage to one of our well known local girls,
Miss Edith Rathburn.
On July 1, 1920, he was appointed Rural Carrier on Route No. 2 out of Weidman, and on
July 1, 1935, Routes No. 1 and No. 2 were united in one, with Ray as carrier for the combine-
Route.
To Ray much credit is due for our present mail service, which gives the rural community
an early delivery of their incoming mail and a day quicker service on their outgoing mail.
Ray, we are happy to include you in our “Roses for the Living,” and wish you a long life
of efficient and friendly service to your patrons.
