Miss Anna M. Utz, 75, of 536 Bryant Ave, Manistee, Mich, died unexpectedly at the West Shore Hospital in Manistee on Wed, Sept. 30. She was born December 11, l894, in Ohio, and was a registered nurse at Gaylord Sanitorium, and a member of the Church of the Brethren.

Graveside services were held at the Salt River cemetery on

Saturday, Oct. 3, with Rev. Richard Ward officiating.

Survivors are sisters, Miss Catherine Utz of Manistee, and Mrs. Max (Sylvia) Kegler of Manistee.
 

Miss Catherine Utz, 77, of Manistee, Mich, died Friday April 11 at the Ford Hospital, Detroit.

Katie, as she was better known, lived with her family at rural Shepherd about the 1920's. She was a teacher in the Shepherd Public Schools about 1930. She later taught in Ludington and retired from there, and with her sister, Anna, moved to Manistee. She was a member of the Shepherd Church of the Brethren, later transferring to Onekama Church of the Brethren.

Survivors are a sister, Sylvia Kegler of Manistee, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Word was received by Mrs. Beulah Piatt from Mrs. Dorothy Fuller of the death of Dorothy's sister, Violet Vredenburg of San Francisco, Nov. 9, after a long illness.

Violet I. Vredenburg was born in Shepherd, Mich. Jan 12, 1899. She completed her high school work at the University of Washington in Seattle and received her B.S. R.N. and degree in Public Health Nursing. She was supervisor of surgery for seven years at Swedish Hospital in Seattle, after which she moved to San Francisco in 1943, where she has been in Public Health Nursing until her retirement three years ago.

Connonaburg, Belmont, Mich. and Pomona, Calif, and Mildred (Mrs. Patty Gabbert) of Redondo, Wash. Mrs. Vivian Zook is a cousin. Many friends in Shepherd will be sorry of her passing.

Lydia Mae Walters who was born in Isabella coungy and resided the greater part of her life In the vicinity of Shepherd, died Tuesday in St. Louis at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Elton Miller, after an illness of 11 weeks. Mrs. Walters who was 60 yrs. old, was born in Isabella county, Aug. 31, 1874, and was married in Findlay, Ohio, in l894 to Byron E. Walters.

Besides the daughter named she is survived by the following brothers and sisters: John A. Stahlman of Mt. Pleasant Orrison U. Stahlman of Kentucky, Isaac Milton Stahlman of Shepherd R.F.D. and Lulu It. Law of Grand Blanc, Mich.

Mrs. Walters had been with her daughter in St. Louis for the last 6 years. The funeral will be held at the residence in St. Louis, Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock, and interment will be made in the Salt River cemetery. The Rev. S. Phillips of Shepherd will officiate.

Myron A. Week eldest son of Joseph and Celi Weeks was born in Walton twp. Eaton Co, Mich. Nov. 10, 1861 and died March 8, 1932, at the age of 70 years 3 months and 29 days. When he was a boy of 16 years of age, he moved with his parents to Gratiot county where he lived until 1899. At that time he United in marriage to Anna Lowery. They moved to Lincoln twp. Isabella county, where they had resided until a few months ago when they moved to a farm 4 miles north and 1 mile east of Shepherd where his death occurred.

He literally hewed a home and farm out of the Wilderness and lived to see this part of the country converted from a tract

Of wilderness into fertile farm, with good roads, schools, and other fine public improvements.

To this union 4 children were born: Fred R. Weeks of near Rosebush, Mrs. Iva Truesell and Mrs. Bernice Flurtill of near Shepherd, and Clare E. who preceded him in death in 1917. He is survived also by the widow, the 3 children, 2 grandchildren, a

sister Miss Minnie Thompson of Alma, as well a host of friends and relatives.

Funeral services were held at the M.E. church in Shepherd Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock, Rev. W. Bell officiating and interment was made in Riverside Cemetery, Alma.

Mt. Pleasant, Feb. 23-Mrs. I.,E. Wilcox, 88 one of Isabella county's oldest residents, died Wednesday afternoon at the Brondstetter Memorial hospital following a short illness.

She had been a resident of this city for 56 years and was the widow of the late I.E. Wilcox who conducted a furniture store here for many years .

Mrs. Wilcox was a member of the Methodist church and in her younger days took an active part in all church activities.

She is survived by a daughter, Alice Ryan of Rosaville, Ill., J.H. Wells, a son of Walled Lake, and Mrs. Grace Barber, a daughter of this city, where she made her home.

Funeral services were held Friday morning at 10:30 o'clock at the Stinson Chapel, the Rev. C.W. MacKenzie officiating.

James Wilson son of Lydia and Robert Wilson was born May 9, 1863 and departed this life October 7. 1942 at the advanced age of 79 years 4 months 22 days . In 1903 he was united in marriage with Mary Hurlburt of Shepherd and to their union three children were born one daughter Mrs. Helen Kidder surviving. Other survivors are his wife, two grandons and a brother, E.C. Wilson who lives in Santa Ana California.

Mr. Wilson lived his entire life in the community of Shepherd except for fourteen years in Mt. Pleasant.

Funeral services were conducted from his country home by his Odd Fellow brethern. Rev. Hoover officiating.

Funeral services for Mrs. Solomon Wolf, 82, were held from the home in Mt. Pleasant Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock, the Rev. C.B. Hawkins officiating.

Mrs. Wolf died Thurs afternoon from an illness of many weeks. she was born in Canada in 1850, coming to Mich. with her parents at the age of 9 years. In 1869 she was married in Alma.

Soon afterward, they settled on a farm in Chippewa twp. where she lived until 1908. Following the death of her husband, she moved to her present home on Walnut St. Mrs. Wolf was the mother of 8 children. She leaves 4 daughters and 2 sons, Mrs. John Trim, Mrs. Pearl Wilcox, Mrs. Charles Mullett, Mrs. Martha Leonard, Fancher Wolf of Mt. Pleasant and Foster Wolf of Shepherd; 21 grandchildren and 43 great grandchildren. She was the widow of a Civil War Veteran, a member of the W.C., the Rebekahs, and the O.E.S. Burial was made in the family lot of the Chippewa Cemetery,
