John A. Johnson

B. Feb. 3, 1826 Vienna, Oneida County, N.Y. to William W. and

Nancy (Whittaker) Johnson, 8th child and 7th son. Came to Michigan in

1855. Located sect. 22-Coe township. Early settler.

Aug. 21, 1861 enlisted in Company Cg 8th Mich. Vol. Inf. Assigned to Army of the Carolinas. Discharged Sept. 18, 1862 for disability.

Returned home to Union township and was lst settler on his section.

Staunch Republican.

Sheriff in 1863 for 2 years.

Probate Judge 1876 4 years.

Came to Monroe County aged 18 and married soon after. Father of 10 with 8 surviving him.

2nd marriage Mrs. Mary A. Conrad of Lake City a month hence his death.

Funeral M.E. church with Rev. G,A. Buell officiating.

Burial Riverside Cemetery.
 
 

Old Uncle Koble

David Koble was called upon to perform the sad duty of burying his aged father last Tuesday. Old Uncle Koble was one of the pioneers of this county locating on a farm about 5 miles south of Mt. Pleasant where he lived to see his family grow to man and womanhood. There he lost his companion, and then as his children were married and gone, he went to live with a daughter near Crystal Lake, Michigan, Montcalm Co., and last spring moved with them to Chase, Lake county, where he died last Sabbath at 84 years.

He was bur. beside his wife in Lincoln cemetery.
 
 

Mrs. Daniel E. Lyon

Ione (Clark) Lyon was born Oct. 1, 1840, in Bloomfield, Ohio, and died Nov. 12, 1903, at Mt. Pleasant, Mich. She was the daughter of Rev. Wesley Clark of the North Ohio M.E. Conference.

She married Daniel E. Lyon in the house where she was born Feb. 26, 1865, and came with her husband that same spring to settle as pioneers on a new farm in Sec. 27, Union twp. Isabella county. They moved to Mt. Pleasant 23 years ago, when it was a small village.

Mrs. Lyon leaves besides her husband, 1 son Wesley C. of Los Angeles, Calif. and 2 daughters, Mrs. Deaie A. Ratch of St. Lawrence county, New York, and Mrs. Carrie E. Livingston of this city, also a sister, Mrs. W.C. Irwin of Cleveland, Ohio, and a brother Eugene Clark of New York City.

Funeral services were at her home, with Rev. Joseph Dutton, pastor of the M.E. church, officiating.
 
 


John Lyons

John Lyons was born in Perry county, Pa., March 4, 1825.

In 1833, his parents moved to Richland county, Ohio, and in 1852 moved to Williams county, Ohio, where he was married to Catharine Keith. In 188l, they moved to Chippewa township, this county, thence to Shepherd where they have since resided.

He was the father of six children, four of whom survive him.

He enlisted in the fall of l864 and served until the close of the war.

Mr. Lyons passed away Feb. 2, being 75 years and 11 months old.

He was a good soldier, a kind husband and father, a citizen highly respected and esteemed by all who knew him.

Funeral services were held Sunday morning Feb. 4, from the Christian church, with interment in the Chippewa cemetery, Rev. R.M,. Willis officiating.
