John Albert Uebele of Rolland township, passed away Sunday, June 23, at the age of 70 yrs., 6 mos., and 18 days.

He was born on 5 Jan 1870, at Fort Wayne, Indiana, the son of Christian and Mary Uebele. At the age of 12, he moved with his parents to Fremont township, and on 25 February, 1895, was united in marriage to Alice E. Eldred of Rolland township.

To this union were born three children, Rollie, who preceded his father in death in 1929, Don of Blanchard and Jennie Curtiss of Fremont, Newaygo County.

The deceased is survived by his wife, two children, four grandchildren and three sisters.

Funeral services were held from the Pine River church, Tuesday afternoon, June 25, with the Rev. C. Howard of Big Rapids officiating, assisted by E. W. Woodruff. Burial was in Pine River.

Clarence Frankford Carlson was born in Paxton, Illinois, 5 April, 1900, and departed this life 27 June, 1940 at the University Hospital, Ann Arbor, Michigan - aged 40 years, 2 months and 22 days.

He was united in marriage to Luella Myers at Paxton, Illinois 8 December, 1920. To this union one child was born, a daughter, Evelyn Ann, who died in infancy.

Mr. Carlson removed to Mt. Pleasant, Michigan in 1921, and engaged in farming. During the past two years he has been employed by the Simrall corporation.

He wad confirmed 30 May 1915 in the Swedish Lutheran church and he is a member of that communion.

Mt. Carlson made a gallant fight to recover from his illness. Everything which professional skill could suggest and everything that loving care could do was expended without reserve to help him in his last illness.

Left to mourn his departure are his loving and devoted wife, his mother and father, Mr. And Mrs. H. F. Carlson of Paxton, Illinois, two nieces and two nephews and a host of friends.

Funeral services were conducted at Mt. Pleasant Sunday, June 30 at 2 o’clock with Rev. Charles W. Mackenzie minister of the First Methodist church officiating. Committal services were held at the Riverside cemetery the same afternoon.

Dr. Ralph E. Dawson, prominent physician of Blanchard, passed away at his home, Thursday, June 27, following a heart attack. Dr. Dawson had been in failing health for the past two years.

Funeral services were held from the home, Sunday afternoon, June 30, at two o’clock with Rev. Mr. Jeffries officiating. Interment was made in the Decker cemetery with Lynch and Jones of Blanchard in charge of the arrangements. The deceased was honored at the services by the American Legion and the Masonic Lodge.

Dr. Dawson was born at Milan, October 27, 1882, and graduated from the Detroit School of Medicine in the year 1906. He was united in marriage to Florence Gillespie on June 12, 1914, in Pontiac. Dr. Dawson practiced medicine in Lansing, Pigeon, and Bay Port prior to coming to Blanchard where he enjoyed the practice of medicine for 27 years. He was a member of the Presbyterian church, the Masonic lodge and the American Legion.

Surviving are his wife, Florence; three sons, Ralph, Jr., William and Wallace of Blanchard and one brother, John Dawson of Auburn, Indiana.

Harriet Bogne DeBois, of Clarkston, former resident of Mt. Pleasant and Isabella county, passed away Saturday, June 22, at the home of her son, Thomas DeBois, North Adams street, where she arrived Saturday morning to spend several days and attend a family reunion on July 4^th.

Mrs. DeBois was born in Saginaw county, May 1, 1871, the daughter of Charles and Elizabeth Bogne. Her early life was spent on a farm in Isabella county where on July 4, 1891, she was united in marriage to Andrew DeBois. To this union nine children were born, six of whom survive. Mrs. DeBois lived in Clare for 22 years, moving from there to Mt. Pleasant where she resided for twelve years. Following the demise of her husband in 1928, she made her home with a sister near Pontiac and for the past eight years made her permanent residence with her daughter, Mrs. Belle Smith of Clarkston, dividing her time among her children and sister. Her death was caused by a heart attack.

She leaves to mourn their loss, four sons, Kenneth of Ovid, Gerald of Lansing, Delos of Pontiac, Thomas of Mt. Pleasant; two daughters, Mrs. Belle Smith of Clarkston and Mrs. Garnet Beach of Pontiac; two sisters, Mrs. Jennie Monroe of Ovid and Mrs. Nettie Bright of Marenisco; and two brothers, William Bogne of Grandville and Thomas Bogne of Calif. Her husband and three children, Hazel, Iola and Frank preceded her in death.

Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon, June 26, from the Doherty Funeral home in Clare and burial was made in the Cherry Grove cemetery.

Mrs. John Rosselit, 75, passed away at the Community hospital in Mt. Pleasant at 9:15 Sunday morning, October 13, after a two weeks illness. Rosary was recited at the home of her son, Harry E. Rosselit, at 8:00 o’clock Monday evening and Requiem High Mass chanted by the Rev. Fr. Joseph Brogger at 10:00 o’clock Tuesday morning at the St. Vincent de Paul Catholic church of which she was a member.

Interment was made in the St. Vincent de Paul cemetery beside the body of her husband, who preceded her in death by almost six years.

Anna Louise Rosselit was born the daughter of Mr. And Mrs. Dommick Arend, at Tiffin, Ohio, September 1, 1865, and was united in marriage to John Rosselit on August 5, 1885.

She leaves to mourn her departure one son, Harry E. Rosselit, of Shepherd; one daughter, Mrs. Viola Weibel, of Flint; six grandchildren and one great grandchild. She also leaves four sisters, Mrs. Mary Duffner and Mrs. Elizabeth Sly of Dearborn, Catherine Kulbler of Cecil, Ohio, and Pauline Bakle of Fort Wayne, Ind; and two brothers, D. Arend of Cecil, Ohio and Peter Arend of Fostoria, Ohio.

Word was received recently telling of the death of Miss Cynthia Fosgett, an old time resident of this community. Miss Fosgett passed away at the I. O. O. F. Home in Jackson, where she resided several years. Burial was made in the I. O. O. F. Home cemetery.

Charles R. Stewart, 40, a tool dresser in the employ of the Columbia Gas and Oil company, met with a tragic death while employed on a well near Stanton at 4:30 o’clock Friday afternoon, October 18. A cable which was being lowered into a well by a fellow workman broke and encircled his neck.

A prayer service was held at 7:30 o’clock Saturday evening at the Stilgenbauer funeral home with is pastor, the Rev. Henry Hulme, who was assisted by the Rev. W. H. Bell, officiating. The body was taken Sunday to his former home in Pennsylvania, where funeral services were held at two o’clock Monday afternoon with the Rev. Charles Bell, of Ellwood City, Ohio, officiating. Interment was made in the St. John’s Reformed cemetery.

Mr. Stewart was born in Butler county, Pennsylvania, January 18, 1900. He was united in marriage to Miss Marion Hughes in June 1936, coming directly to Shepherd where he had been previously employed.

He is survived by his widow, one two year old daughter, Marion Elizabeth, his mother, Mrs. Sarah Elizabeth Stewart, and one brother, George Stewart, both of Butler, PA.

Mrs. Stewart’s father, John Hughes, and her sister, Miss Janet Hughes, arrived from the east Saturday morning to comfort the bereaved widow and assist in making funeral arrangements.

Near the casket where the body lay, the little daughter was christened immediately before the prayer service. This was an ordinance which the parents had planned to be held during the church worship hour Sunday.

Funeral services were held at St. Henry’s church, Tuesday for Mrs. Margaret (White) Hibbeln, 28, a former resident of this city, who passed away in the Community hospital Friday, after an illness of six-weeks.

Mrs. Hibbeln, the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. John White, of Coleman Road, was a resident of this community since birth, until the last few years when she made her home in Flint.

She leaves to mourn her passing, in addition to her parents, her husband, Victor Hibbeln, two sons, Jack 7, and Danny Joe, 2; three sisters and four brothers.

Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon, October 10, at the Zion Lutheran church in Broomfield township for James B. Nicholson, 73, well-known Isabella farmer. Mr. Nicholson had been ill for almost two years and died early Tuesday morning, Oct. 8.

Services were conducted by the Rev. D. Metzger, pastor of the Zion Lutheran church, of which Mr. Nicholson was a member. Burial was made in the Fairview cemetery in Weidman.

Mr. Nicholson was the son of Mr. & Mrs. Christopher Nicholson and was born May 26, 1867, in Monroe County, New York. He came to Michigan with his parents at an early age, and his youth was spent in Livingston and Shiawassee counties.

He was united in marriage to Miss Rhoda Turner, March 20, 1888, at Morrice, where they spent their early married life. In November, 1895, they came to Isabella county where Mr. Nicholson lived for 45 years.

Mr. Nicholson is survived by his wife, five daughters, Mrs. Frank Handy of Evert, Mrs. William Cook, of Broomfield, Mrs. Clarence Wiley of Pontiac, Mrs. Arnold Bingham of Franklin, Mrs. Otto Filey of Farmington; two sons, William of Broomfield and Roderick, at home. One daughter, Flossye Ellen, preceded him in death in 1917. He leaves one sister, Mrs. Mary Davis, of Morrice, and eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Alexander Hislop

Funeral services were held from the Rosebush Presbyterian church on Wednesday at two o’clock

for Alexander Hislop, pioneer resident of Isabella county and the owner of the Rosebush general store, who passed away at his home in Rosebush Monday, June 3, after an illness of two years. Reverend C. B. Thompson had charge of the services and Stinson and Son had charge of the funeral arrangements. Interment was made in the Rosebush cemetery.

Mr. Hislop was born on March 21 1863 in Glasglow, Scotland and for the past sixty years has resided in Isabella county where he was much beloved by the residents of the community in which helived.

He is survived by his wife, Agnes; two sons, Clyde of Claifornia, Harold of Mt. Pleasant; two daughters, Verna of Isabella township, Margaret of Traverse City, and one sister, Ann McDonald of Erie, Pennsylvania.

Erastus A. Storey

Erastus A. Storey, 54, of Broomfield township, passed away in the Isabella county hospital, Monday, June 3, after a brief illness.

Services were held from the Broomfield church at two o’clock on Wednesday, June 5, with interment in the Broomfield cemetery. Stinson and Son had charge of arrangements.

Mr. Storey, who was born on August 5, 1885, in Greenville, had enjoyed the occupation of farming during his lifetime.

He is survived by his wife, Mamie; one son, Beral of Chippewa township, two daughters, Dorothy Brown of Grand Rapids and Eldora Lehman of Ionia; and his mother, Mrs. Cornelia Jinks of Greenville.

Howard Roberts

Howard Roberts, of Millbrook, passed away on Sunday, June 2, at his home, after a brief illness.

Funeral services were held from the Millbrook Methodist church on Wednesday, June 4 at two o’clock with interment in the Decker cemetery. Revernd Swogger had charge of the services and Vern Crittenden of Remus was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Roberts was born on June 3, 1881 in Bancroft and had been employed in the milling business at Millbrooko for many years. He was a member of the Blanchard Masonic lodge and the Millbrook Oddfellows lodge.

Surviving are two nieces, Mrs. Merritt Murphy and Miss Rose Grimm of Lansing; one aunt, Mrs. Jennie Deem of Columbus, Ohio, and one uncle, Edwin Howard, of Remus.

Bert Slater Dies After Long Illness

Bert C. Slater, prominent Mt. Pleasant business man, passed away at the family residence on North

Fancher street, Saturday morning, June 8, following an illness of several months.

A resident of Mt. Pleasant for the past ten years, Mr. Slater was well known among residents throughout the county and state, having been a public accountant in this vicinity for the past fifteen years.

He is survived by his wife, Alice Wolcott Slater; mother, Mrs. Anna V. Slater of Janesville, Wisconsin; three sisters, Barbara of Chicago, Mrs. Milton Cook and Mrs. Joseph Gibbons of Janesville, Wisoncis; three nephews and two nieces.

Funeral services were held from the family residence Monday morning, June 10 at ten o’clock. Reverend C. B. Hawkins, pastor of the Presbyterian church, officiated and Joseph Rush had charge of arrangements. Pallbearers were John Benford, Evan Weidman, Robert Atha, Bert Shangle, Harold Kaufman, and Malcolm Wardrop. Internment was made Tuesday, at two-thirty o’clock in Mt. Olivet cemetery in Janesville, Wisconsin.
